I am going to be presiding over communion at my church for the first time since I was baptized, and am a little intimidated to be honest. I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas of what to talk about or any good scriptures.

Just read a short scripture (possibly one of the following) and say a prayer giving thanks for the bread or juice. You'll do fine! (Some people don't even read a scripture or make a comment, but they just offer the prayer. I think the scripture reading is good because it helps to focus the minds of those taking communion.)

Matthew 26:26-28
"And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."

Acts 20:7
"And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight."

Luke 22:19-20
"And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."

1 Corinthians 11:28-29
"But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. "

Romans 5:8-10
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

I was raised in the Church of Christ and presided over communion many times. Let me suggest the following scriptures to read.

Matt. 26.26-29
Mark 14.22-25
Luke 22.18-20
1 Cor. 11.23-25
Those are all about the Lord's Supper

Psalm 22
Supposed to be a prophecy about the suffering Christ.

Isaiah 53
Also supposed to be a prophecy about the suffering Christ.

Good luck!

I like the scripture suggestions offered by bama_jdl & Wierd Darryl. It's nice to meet a new brother in Christ who is bold enough to post such an honest question. Going up in the church, the most meaningful passages to me during the Lord's Supper are the accounts of the crucifixtion. I often read them to myself during communion.

Matthew 27:33-54
Mark 15:22-39
Luke 23:33-46
John 19:1-30

Pray for God to help you with your nerves...remember "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)

You can take communion when you are born again and are a member of the body of Christ. You do not have to be a member of the church where you are partaking communion. Neither is it necessary that you are baptized when doing so. However it is needful to be baptized to indentify ourselves with the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. God bless you.

At the moment, I do not recall the scriptures; but Christ said his body was hte bread of life, and life is in the blood (the fruit of the vine).
