No, that is part of what they do, especially if you are paying for a membership. I'm sure you gave him a gracious thank you which will do. But I do know what you feel; I love to tip for what I feel are extras and it is the best way to show appreciation.
What I would do is make sure I greeted him each visit. I don't think they can accept tips.

No tip. Thank him for his time, but that really is his job. Your gym staff may not be all that helpful that's why you feel the need to tip him. You could also send a letter or email to the manager and owner of the club praising him.

Proper etiquette is to tip anyone that you feel went the extra mile for you. Make sure you dont give it the appearance of a donation to someone who needs it. Say thanks for doing extra. Its a way of complimenting someones performance, much as a boss gives a raise.

No need to tip. The gyms hire the monkeys because it makes it a nicer gym experience, and because injuries are more expensive than hired help. If you want to reward him, do the workout he gave you, and look great-- he will take great pride in seeing your body improve.

well its too late for that now. what you can do is mention his good work to his boss.
if you do get more help from him and this isnt what you see him doing all the time then slip him 5 or 10 bucks sometimes.

He is paid to help you and others, no matter how long it takes. That is his job.
Even a personal trainer [ unless you are rich and want to make an impression on the person ]..

If you are a new member, someone is SUPPOSED to show you how the equipment is used properly - it would be a liability issue!
