Yeah.
Buy 6 large Red Bliss or Yukon Gold Potatoes, halve them and boil 'til tender when stuck with a fork.
While the potatoes are boiling roast a head of garlic** (wrap it in foil) until soft.
Drain & mash the potatoes leaving skins on, squeeze the garlic into them, add some butter and milk until it tastes right, add a little salt and pepper. Done!

This is a really easy recipe that I've been doing since I was about 7.

Use as many red potatoes as you would like (I usually use about 10). You don't have to peel them, just wash and cut them. Put them in some boiling water, also to the water you might want to add a whole clove of garlic, it will get boiled, some will be sweet, some spicy.

After about 8 minutes check on the potatoes with a fork, if they are soft, then they are all done. Strain the water out, and keep the garlic in the strainer, along with the potatoes.

In a pot mix about a 1/4 cup to start of milk (depending on how many potatoes) about a half stick of butter, or however much you like. Let the butter melt and then add the potatoes back in. Use a potato masher to mash them (you could probably use other things, like a fork or something too) Now just sprinkle a little pepper, and they are ready to eat. Good luck!

A traditional homemade style mashed potato recipe makes the ultimate comfort food and is one of those dishes you can get creative with by adding all sorts of ingredients.

You can add garlic, cheese, caulifower, herbs and other spices very easily. But before you can do that, you have to know how to make classic, good, old fashioned homemade style mashed potatoes.

Traditional Mashed Potato Recipe
Homemade Style Mashed Potatoes
Preparation time: 15 minutes. Serves 15-16.

Ingredients:
8-10 pounds of starchy potatoes such as Russet or Yukon Gold
1 tablespoon Kosher salt (less if you use regular salt)
1/2 - 3/4 pound room temperature butter (2-3 cubes per your taste)
1-2 cups heavy cream (whipping cream) or milk
1 - 1 1/2 teaspoons white pepper (if desired)

Instructions:
Peel potatoes and cut into same size pieces
Place the potato pieces in a large pot of cold water as you peel
them so the potatoes will not turn brown
Cover with cold water, add salt and bring to boil
Turn heat down to allow potatoes to simmer until just soft (do not over cook or the potatoes will turn watery)
Pour water off (or save for another use)
Heat cream or milk but do not boil
Mash potatoes with a hand mixer or stand mixer
Add butter and mash until incorporated
Add hot cream or milk (add only enough until potatoes are the right consistency) and mash until smooth but with a few lumps
Add salt and pepper to taste

Cover the pot with a kitchen towel and then plastic wrap and then a tight fitting lid to keep warm or transfer to a covered casserole dish

Option: transfer to a crock pot on warm, cover with
kitchen towel and then the crock pot lid

To serve: uncover, stir lightly and top with more butter.

Cut up potatoes into 1" cubes. I leave the peels on. Use any kind you want. Cover with cold water and bring to a boil and boil for about 20 minutes until a fork goes through them easily. Drain, and mash a bit. Add a brick of cream cheese and mix with a hand blender. Add some melted garlic butter and whip and you're done!

Simple- peel and dice the potatoes, boil until fork tender.
Drain, return to pan
add 1 or 2 tbsp butter, and a splash or two of milk or cream
using a hand mixer or masher, mash until desired consistency.

this is the basic recipe for true creamy potatoes.

2 ways

1. buy dried mashed potatoe mix. Follow directions on the package. Normally just add boiling water and mix.

OR

2. Optionally peel the potatoes. Next boil them in a large pot until soft. ( use a fork to test firmness). Then strain the water out and use a fork or potatoe masher to squish them up in the pot. You can add some butter or margerine while mashing.

Depending on how many people you are making them for you have to boil potatoes first. I peel about 10-15 potatoes for about 5 people but keep in mind they are 3 boys, 1 man and me. I cut them up and put them in a large stock pot. I try to keep them about 1 inch by 1 inch square cuts. Bring them to a boil and then turn down your heat to about med. Boil them till they are tender. Strain them and then put them either back in the pan or in a serving bowl. Mash them with a potatoe masher or a fork works just as well it is just a little harder as you are doing this add a little butter salt and pepper. I use heavy cream but you can use regular milk if you like. I then use an electric mixer to whip them. If you want to add a little flavor you can either roast garlic and add that in there or you can put cheddar and bacon bits and sour cream in there as you whip them. Hope this helps a little bit.

Uh-oh. Mashed taters and chocolate topping?
Seriously if you're new to cooking you may want to try instant.
Otherwise, buy good taters, Yukon Gold is great, peel, cut into fours and place in water that is salted and at a rolling boil, boil until just for tender. Drain and mash with your masher, add some butter, cold milk and a dollop of mayonnaise and beat for just a few minutes (over working the taters will give you a sticky mess from all the starch!) If you want flavoring such as garlic, add it before you whip them.
