The specifically catholic response, from a catholic who has gone to calvary chapel services before:

1) You can go, you must still attend mass

2) Not only can you NOT take communion at any non-catholic/orthodox church, you can not engage in any sacramentals of that church either. You can't even go forward and be "saved" as a first time visitor. You are there strictly as a polite observer and to do anything more constitutes the sin of sacrilage.

3) Be prepared, the calvary church denomination takes a general STRONG stand against catholicism and you'd better be a) pretty solid in your faith and b) pretty read up on catholic appologetics because chances are during the service you're going to hear a lot of slanders against the church (and other churches, that was my biggest bug about having to attend calvary services, they trash talk everyone else instead of having substance... who knows though, each calvary church is different because they lack cohesive theology).

4) you should also encourage your husband to attend mass with you, and if your children are yours by birth there should be no way that you AREN'T taking them to mass and instructing them on the truth about the catholic faith. Fair is fair, if they're going to ask you to attend service with them, they should be willing to attend with you.

Hello, I'm a Christian - I study in the original manuscripts, and belong to no church, but i was brought up Catholic.
Why in the world are you concerned about not going against something you were taught?
My God, don't you realize that what you are saying is that you insist on not going against church rules and traditions? Be concerned with not going against the Word of God, but what is mans opinion against that? nothing.
Go to the church where you are fed the word of God; tithe to the church where you are fed the Word.
If you are expecting to hear the truth of whats in Gods Word by going to a recital mass, well, you are going to be disappointed. What did Jesus Christ do when He went to the Temple?
He taught, and people learned the Word.
Follow His example. Maybe this is Gods way of getting you somewhere so that you can hear a bit of truth for a change. I am not saying this to offend, but to get you to realize that you cannot be a servant of God if you don't know what the heck is written. If you had an employee who didn't learn about his job in the ten years he'd been there, you would fire him, right? Well, find out whats really written in the Word. It will amaze you to find out how little you know about whats really in Scriptures.
As a Catholic, I almost fell off my chair when I looked at the original manuscripts. I never stepped foot back into that church, and never will.

You should remain faithful to what you were taught and stay in the Catholic Church. Pray for your family, study your faith. The Catholic Church is Christ's Church. My prayers are with you and yours.

If you want to go to worship together with them, that is ok- AS LONG AS YOU STILL GO TO MASS.

You cannot replace the Mass with any other type of worship- it is the highest form of worship for a Catholic.

You should get "Catholicism for Dummies" and go over it with your husband. I can't imagine why anyone would give up going to Catholic Mass for an empty serivce.

Yes you are doing something against what you were taught, but there is nothing wrong with that. You are an adult and should be able to think for yourself and decide which church you will attend. If you want to be with your husband and children that is a good thing. I don't think which church you attend is as important as doing it as a family.

It's okay. My Catholic mom has been to my Baptist church before and she liked it. Nothing wrong with that. I've been to my mom's Catholic church dozens of times even though it starts to make me feel uncomfortable (the whole ritualized Mass thingy).

Who knows? You might find a new church home!

Hope this helps. God bless! :)

As Christians, we are the Lords church. It is not a building or a religion. Religion is man's way of trying to please God with rules and traditions. Jesus, is God's way of reaching down to man.

Will the service that you are attending be proclaiming that Jesus Christ is Lord? That He and only He is the head of His Church (followers). Will it proclaim that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God and that each person who accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior and repents of their sins, is given the free gift of salvation? That each follower of Christ, is given the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised to us? If so, you are OK. Go.

Catholics are allowed to attend other religious services. They are still supposed to go to mass and they should not take communion at other churches.

This would be your decision entirely. God is an Almighty God, he loves everyone. I think you're taking the title "Catholic" a little too seriously. If you don't like the church, then don't go back.
