I've been reading up on the BCA APA, etc. I am totally confused. Who is what? Who puts on the big tournaments and how do you get into them? Do you have to be in a league? What about membership? Anyone that has knowledge on this please advise. Whats the first step to take? TIA.

The BCA and APA have their own leagues. You should be able to find local divisions for these either on the BCA or APA website or at a local pool hall. Some of the tournaments are team tournaments, others might be individual. I'm not sure if they're invitational or if you have to qualify or what.

Otherwise, there are various regional tours with numerous tour stops where the tournaments are entirely individual. Most tournaments are run as double elimination.
