What's the proper thing to do if you came first, had your signal on and as soon as the space becomes vacant, another driver cuts you off and parks in the spot. Do you just ignore him/her and look for another spot or do you confront him/her? What's the proper thing to do? What's the moral thing to do? What's the legal thing to do?

Park at the far end and walk. Saves the aggravation and it's good for you.

Happens everywhere! The following is from Hawaii..

Yes, it is the never-ending battle of the parking spaces — the survival of the fittest. Where the driver with the best eye and the quickest response time, and with the fastest car gets the parking space. The other drivers are left in a dust of frustration. This is a common occurrence.

1.When there is a car waiting near the two entrances to a parking lot, one should go behind that car and wait until it is their turn. The person in that vehicle has probably been waiting for some time and is surveying the area for open spaces. Be considerate to that driver, because they were there first.

2. Once a space opens up, turn on your signal light to the direction to where the parking space is at to indicate your intentions. The drivers that see this should understand not to take that space.

3. The most preferred way of parking among the students are backing up into that space. But, when there are cars waiting about, one should try as much as possible to avoid that maneuver.

“Reversing into a parking stall is hazardous and holds up traffic,” Messina said.
4. When a parking space suddenly opens up behind you, don’t back up anymore. Just move on.

5. Because of class schedules, one can expect that there will be fewer parking spaces during that time of day. “Most of the classes are scheduled in the morning. Teachers want to teach in the mornings and students want to go to class in the mornings only.

So, usually from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. there are going to be lots of cars going around and trying to find a space,” Hall said.

6. Stick to the lane you are in and try not to get too greedy with the area you are surveying.

7. Manage time and allow for 30 minutes to an hour on the side for parking.
“When I have to sit and wait for parking, I usually just chill in my car and do homework until something opens up,” Carmi Palicte, KCC student said.

So, if there is a problem, remember calls to the security office will only go so far.
“Disputes over parking are not so much a security matter. It is more a civil matter,” Hall said. The civil way is to respect and be considerate to other drivers.

The proper thing to do is be a bigger person and not worry about. Park somewhere else. Legally there is nothing you can do in a private parking lot. No good can come from a confrontation, it is unlikely that the person will move if you say something. You might wind up getting shot or pepper sprayed.

I have mixed emotions about this one. I would love to just get out of my car sometimes and say "Hey! F**ker! I know you saw me w/ my signal on now get the hell outta MY spot" But knowing my luck they'd pull a gun or something on me and I'm not ready for my life to end over a parking spot. So usually I just let them go and think to myself "karma can be a B*tch." But the biggest question I ponder is this.... " People will go through hell to get a good parking ( circling the parking lot 50 times ) ; why? So they don't have to "walk to the mall or where ever. But what are they gonna do when they get into the building? WALK!!!!

This is what I did:

1. Told her to move her car, because I was there first.
2. Told her if she didn't, her car was going to get f****** up.
3. She said let's get the police.
4. The patrol car arrived.
5. They listened to both of us.
6. Another pulled out right next to hers.
7. I parked there.

This was very immature. Now that I'm grown (23), after I park my car, I walk by that parking spot and very carefully slide my key down the side of their car... just kidding. I would ignore it.

Just ignore the ignoramus for what they are. Impolite, self centered jerks!

You will be a better person to forget and forgive. It won't matter at all in time to come.

The one that really gets me are the people with handicapped stickers or tags that park in the handicapped parking spots, jump out of their vehicles, and run into the store.

I guess they got the tag or sticker by being ignorant or retarded. or mentally deprived.

i'd purely turn around and bypass domicile. i do no longer strategies parking and walking, by no ability park on the slash, by no ability EVER park interior the handicap area. I purely hate coping with the crowds and if there are that many automobiles interior the lot, i can in basic terms think of how many each physique is interior the save.

I've had this happen to me and boy, does it piss me off! Actually there is not much you can do. Someone that would do that might not be the person you want to confront. There are all kind of crazy people out their that have no business in regular society. Just be glad you don't have to deal with people like that often.

Just look for another space. Not worth the confrontation.

Then let the air out of his tires after he goes in the store.

It was your parking spot, but making a scene about it probably won't help. As they are taking the parking spot you should beep your horn at them, let them know you are displeased, but leave it at that.
