Our pekingnese puppy Delilah has proven hard to house break. I've bought the pads but she only uses them on occassion. Any suggestions? Also, how often should I give her a bath?

As far as bathing, you would only want to bathe her once a month and use baby shampoo or shampoo that is formulated for puppies. Bathing her too much can remove the oils in her skin causing her to have dry itchy skin.

She is only 8 weeks old and will have accidents. You want to make sure that you take her out to potty about 10 minutes after she eats or drinks and praise her alot when she does her business outside. Puppies need to be let out at least every hour as they can not hold it for long periods of time. Should you see her going to the bathroom in the house, tell her "no", pick her up and take her outside. You should never rub their nose in it. With consistency and praise, she will quickly learn where she should potty. If she does have an accident in the house, clean it with Petzyme. It not only removes the actual poo or pee but it also removes the smell.

And where is the surprise in this? Your dad is a complete idiot. I would call the humane society and report him for animal cruelty. If this is the best you can do for the puppy, find it a new home before your idiot dad kills it. Did you not prepare to get a new puppy? educate yourself on training? why get a dog if you don't know how to take care of it? It's a baby. There are going to be accidents. You can only train for about 5 minutes at a time. after a meal, when puppy gets up in the morning, take him out, say go potty and wait until he goes potty and praise and pet him. simple.

If you're not home to house break, then you need to get a large crate. Put a folded blanket in the back and a pad in the front. If you are home to house break, then you need to let the puppy out atleast every 30 minutes. Believe me it's worth the trouble even in the middle of the night. I have done this with my dachshund puppy since I first got her at six weeks of age. She lets me know when she needs to go out by coming to me when I am home or she will hold it until I get home to let her out. Also if you are able to confine the puppy to linoliem while to are out , then you can mop up any mistakes the puppy makes until trained.

When you feed her after she is done eating take her directly outside leave her out for about 10 minutes, Also i would take her out every hour this insures that she's had her potty break i have potty trained all four of my dogs and if they do have accidents i rub their nose in it and tell them no and take them outside ASAP this will work. Puppy pads are a joke you don't want them peeing in your house period! Outside pottying only. I would give her a bath about once every 10 days.

Petco has potting training spray. You could spray in on the pads and then move it outdoors.
Bathing depends on how dirty she gets. If she is mostly inside, probably once a month. Be sure not to get water in her ears. Pekingnese get ear infections easily.

Start with crate training .Take her out on a schedule if at all possible . Take her outside as soon as you take her out of the crate .Take her out as soon as she is done eating .Write it down every time she goes.this will tell you how long she can hold it.Once you know this you can take her out before an accident.Don't put food or water in the crate until she is well trained.

Most puppies need to be restricted to a small area to start with. with free reign, they have too much space to get used to. When not with them. A play pen with pads works.

cute congrats on the new puppy i would say every half hour or so bring her outside and always watch her and limit her food and water intake and if she does go in the house it is your fault for not watching her and if you catch her peeing in the house then scold ehr while she is doing her buissness...
