Because they don't just dissappear; they go into the water that fish have to live in and eventually come back into the water that YOU have to use.

the street drains go straight to the oceans and rivers, so you don't want to dump chemicals down that

even though we have water treatment plants, they cannot separate the chemicals from the water in a safe way if you dump it down household drains

All drains eventually connect together. If you dump amonia down the drain, and some else dumps bleach, can you say "Agent Orange"? Combining cemicals is dangerous. So, if you could dump chemicals, they would eventully mix together.

Because it drains out into the Bay (I live in Tampa Bay) or a large body of water, where animals/fish thrive. It would kill all these animals.
