My female dog got bit by a pygmy rattler here in FL, and there are anit-venoms for treatment. (Luckily she pulled through it ok) I just don't know if you'd be able to get some to bring with you.

I'd check the local vets of the area you will be visiting and make sure they have it on hand and if not, find out WHO DOES, what their hours are and get an after hours emergency vet # and address.

There is no anti venom that you can carry. The only thing to do if he got bitten would be rush him to a vet as fast as possible. Just make sure you are really careful and watch him closely. Good Luck, I hope that doesn't happen!

you will not lose your dog to a rattlesnake bite....they are not lethal to dogs it seems. i grew up with 13 beagles and 2 basset hounds that my Dad used for rabbit hunting. they were all bit at least once in their lives, some more than once. One basset hound was bit once on a saturday and then again on monday and she didnt slow down at all. now those were small dogs and your doberman out weighs them buy alot, your dogs weight in ratio to the amount of venom will be even less effective. Now i will tell you that we did use peroxide to clean and anitbiotic ointments(over the counter) on the bites and there is usually swelling in the bite area which is almost always near or on the face, since the dogs like to sniff new things right. so her face may swell up and she will look like a bloodhound but it goes back down soon as their body soaks up the poison. maybe some advil will help with that too....

good luck

you can use the same anit venoms for dogs as humans. contact your vet for a more specific dog anti venom though.

No, an anitvenin needs to be administered by a licensed Veterinarian.
