This is an old Eddie Izzard joke based on "sods law" (butter always falls down) and the rule that a cat will always land on it's feet.
I tried it and all I got was some inedible bread and butter and a dead cat.
Just joking.

You'd have a pissed off cat that was wondering why it was being chased around by pigeons/ducks.
