a lot of the commentators here have said that the majority want the status quo. However opinion polls on both sides of the border show a majority in favour of ending the union.
IMO the Union has served it's time and it is time to end it. Scotland will be better being independent. We won't get dragged into foreign wars and won't be looked down upon. We will be an independent nation again able to make our own policies rather than letting Westminster do it for us.

Scotland regaining its independance is nothing like an American state deciding to secede from the Union.
Scotland was at one time a totally seperate country from England, as were Wales and Ireland.
Scotland still has distinctly different legal and education systems to England nevermind having its own seperate parliament since 1999.
However, as a Scot I can see the benefits of remaining part of the Union............. but there is a part of me that would like to see the back of the Sasannachs!!

i think everthing is ok the way it is you just get the odd awkuard sod that they think they are above everyone else if some scots want to be seperated or even some english want to be seperated they should get lost and go and live somewhere else englands got a lot of history too, what more do the scots want theyve got their own government just like england and wales and the law is slightly different but guess what it is part of the british isles and by them all being joined is what makes britain great britian

Despite whatever may have gone on historically, pragmatically I personally think it would be disastrous for Scotlands economy and the day it happens I'll be off. I hope however, that when push comes to shove if we do have a referendum, people will think hard

No. I disagree. They should remain together. England should use force if necessary. That is like a State from the USA, deciding their don't want to be in the Union anymore.

Emperor Hadrian tried it but there was too much 'smuggle' across his Wall so he gave up.

The Union should stay put. Just stop Scottish MPs voting on purely Engish or Welsh issues. (That won't happen with our present Scottish dominated government)

Why would anyone think that they should? I don't get it. They are getting on fine as they are. There is no conflict or war. And as they are physically joined as one land mass (as well as Wales) I don't think it is a very practical idea. It is good that The British Isles are united.
