Having owned my own restaurant,I'm sorry to have to tell you that I would politely ask you to f*** off.
Apart from any other consideration most restaurants are obliged to adhere to such strict legislation concerning food and safety issues that no food other than certified as HACCP regulated foodstuffs can be brought on to the premises.
Another aspect is the hypothesis that you tried say a desert that took your fancy in addition to eating your own sandwiches and subsequently claimed against the restaurant for food poisoning, without the restaurant being aware of what you brought in.
A few years ago the then Minister for Health in Ireland tried the same as you are proposing to do,with a pub.
The story was reported in the Irish press alongside which was a photograph of him eating his sandwiches:
On the bench by the bus stop outside

Listen to these words..ALWAYS call in advance and talk to a manager or owner ..IN ADVANCE! Good food service people respect their restaurants like their homes. (Afterall they practically live there anyway.) If they are really good at their profession they will manage to clear 2.5 to 3% of their annual gross sales total. (Thats a lot of commitment for so little profit)
Call ahead and explain your diet problems, ask for their menu items that meet your needs. Be polite and respectfull but stand by your needs and maybe compromise by purchasing all your drink/beverages and tip 15% on your beverages. REMEMBER...someone has to clean up after you and your friends. If things go well for you be sure to tell the manager. If a food service is not willing to help you under these guidelines then it is not a place you want to go or spend your hard earned money in with your friends. To para-phrase a commercial....Respect the food service and it will respect you.

Definitely NOT.
Maybe your sandwich is better than what they serve in the restaurant (I guess you know the place), but then it is better to eat it before joining your family - or even better, eat it at home.
As for people preparing your food, well, you can do nothing about it. Either stay at home, or find nice, clean restaurants.

I do it all the time. I have multiple food allergies and cant usually eat in restaurants. It is polite to call ahead and talk to the manager. I called McDonalds yesterday, explained it to them, they said no problem-I was attending a meeting there. I just try to be discreet, and will usually order a glass of water with lemon (just so I dont stand out too much)

Hello. No, that is a dumb idea and why are you so worried about the people making your food, do you have trust issues???
But, seriously, come on! You think if you order a salad with dressing on the side they are going to secretly rub bacon grease all over your lettuce? Geez!

sure you can take your own sandwich. just ask them for a diet soda ,and say you already ate. but keep your sandwich in your pocket book or behind your back.its kinda important to go on a diet once in a while.and to think about whether or not to do this you are doing really well.

Not at my restaurant, or any other that I know of. I kicked someone out once for bringing their own food and sucking up my waitress's time by having to refill his water glass because he was too broke to buy anything.

Most restaurants won't let you and it is not really polite to do so. I would be embarrassed to sit with you. Can't you just order something light. You need to go to therapy about your ideas that people put things in your food. Thats not normal thinking.

2-i think they'll tell u to put it away!
