it depends wha you are interested in, if you want something short and full of go to guns blazing try Infantry short basic and ait, learn cool **** and u can even get the option 40 in your contract to try out for a slot with the Army Rangers, get airborne also you'll be assigned either to the 82nd,101st,or173rd airborne unit, and if your really high speed try for the 18x mos, special forces (green berets) you basically can go through the engineers course, medic course, weapons course(which I am doing), communications course.
If you want to do long term join an ROTC or go reserve or national guard and then complete college to get commisioned.
Something less dangerous would be qutermaster, logistcs(Intel) computer programmer, some medical fields.
make sure you only sign for four years and I would advise going reserve, you cant do rangers but you get a chance to get a small tatse of the life and if you like it u can go full time and if you dont you only have to put up with it two weekends a month two weeks in the summer.
Whatever you do dont join the Marines, the Air force is downsizing, and the navy is just to boring unless yo doe spec ops. or seabees, If you have anyquestions regarding the specops area let me know, I am traing for the 18B weapons Sgt course witht army and my best friend is stationed in Coranado,Ca and is waiting for his slot for BUDs school.

It all depends if you want to make it a career or not. I joined in 1999 just to do a couple of years and get out. Once I was in I decided that I liked it and wanted to stay in. After that I got my commander to get me into the Green to Gold program to get my commission. There is a lot more work on the officer side but you get to command troops and make decisions that make a difference.
I went into the Signal Corps and if you like the technology side of the house it is definitely the way to go. I have worked on everything from computers to multi-million dollars communication shelters.

The best service is not the army. The best is the RAF and any air trade too.
