Sunsilk makes my head itch.

Herbal Essences is okay.

Best of all is to use "bodifying" shampoo from several different companies, switching to a different brand every time you wash your hair.

Try taking prenatal vitamins as well. I have heard that this can encourage the faster and thicker growth of hair (although I have never tried this myself).

I can't quite relate to this as my hair is VERY thick, but I do have some advice.

Try using a texturizing or volumizing shampoo. Never get tons of layers, as it thins out your hair even more; get soft layers. Don't brush too often, and take a multi-vitamin (it does wonders for hair and nails!) every day. Until your hair seems a bit healthier/more volume, don't grow it past neck-length or chin length. You could try growing it to shoulder-length, but even then it might look scraggly. But don't worry, there are TONS of gorgeous styles that are relatively short and can suit you.

I use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and their follic booster too. It is for thin or thinning hair. I have a little new growth and it volumizes it too. Use a root booster kind of mouse on your roots. Blow dry your hair focusing on the roots, lifting your hair and blowing air on roots and scalp. Blow untill all hair is about 80% dry then use a round brush and dry in sections pulling the top layer out of the way untill underneath is dry. It will take 30 seconds or more of hot heat on each section.

It takes a good hair cut and a volume hair line, but I would not grow thin hair longer than chin length ...

try to give volume to your hair, i dont think you should grow them out too long. so keep them medium length and try to work with that. i suggest you check out a hair stylist or a beauty parlor, they should be more help.
