Sunday trading laws forbid the really large stores above a certain square footage (I think it is 3000 sq.ft) of floor space to open for more than 6 hours on a Sunday. Most supermarkets therefore choose to either open from 10am-4pm or 11am-5pm. This is England & Wales though - nip across the border into Scotland and there are no such Sunday trading laws and shops can do what they like. I'm not sure if any do though. Check the company websites concerned for individual named towns and cities, but about 8pm seems the average for Scottish stores on a Sunday.
Smaller convienience stores like Spar are exempt from this rule and can choose their own hours, usually till about 10pm.

It really depends where you are but as a general rule: sainsbury's usually closes at 4/5pm on sundays.
go to wwww.sainsburys.co.uk
click on store locator and choose the store nearest to you and check the opening times.
hmmm, as for any big shops open late?? even the big stores have to close by 5pm latest on a sunday. i think its something to do with a limited amount of trading hours on a sunday.
hope this helps!

ALL the big stores are LEGALLY only allowed to trade for 6 hours on a Sunday. If they open at 10 am, then they MUST close at 4pm. The high street stores open at 11am and close at 5pm.

They shut at 4pm. Rather ridiculous since other shops such as BHS and Boots can stay open until 5pm on a sunday- dont they want the business?

no shops are open late sunday. all major stores close around 4 or 5pm depending on whether they open at 10 or 11am - Sunday trading laws. you are going to have to find a petrol station (supermarket ones are usually still open) or a local independent/corner shop.
