She is almost 7 months old now, is still teething, and I have noticed that her two canines are starting to grow in, BUT the old baby canines are still there - so they are right beside one another. Now if I lived in the US where I could take her to a vet I would - so please dont offer that obvious solution - I do not live in a country that has qualified vets. I plan on traveling back to the states in a few months and could bring her if I have to, but is there anything I can do? Is this normal, and will it resolve itself? And yes, she has lots of teething toys and teething treats.

OK - maybe I didnt make this clear in my statement - I do not live in a country that even has good medical care - including dental care.

OK - thanks for all of the advice. I will keep an eye on her, right now it doesn't seem to affect her, and I have been adding water to her dry dog food anyway b/c of teething. If it starts bothering her, I will have to get it done here w/o anaesthesia, which I dont want to do, but they are not used to small dogs here and anaesthesia may kill her (as the vet already told me here and told me I needed to take her to Europe or the States to get her spaded and - I just had her back in the states in Dec to do that). If I can wait for a few months to take her back to the states, I will try that too.

I had the same problem with my chi. He had double rowed teeth--common with chi's. I'm sorry you dont have good vet care where you are but that is whats going to have to be done. The teeth are definitely going to have to be pulled. No, it wont resolve itself. Your chi will most likely have horrible breath and alot of bacteria in her mouth. If you have to wait for a few months then atleast try to keep pups mouth clean by brushing her teeth(with dog toothpaste, not humans) Even brushing with just water if Doggy toothpaste isnt available. You may even notice pup having trouble chewing her kibble, it can hurt. But, until you can get those baby teeth pulled just keep an eye on your pup. Lots of chew toys are great too! You sound like you are a responsible pet owner and that is fantastic!! E-mail me when you get pup taken care of--I'd luv to hear from you!! Good luck!!!

The only thing you can do is take her to the vet. My chihuahua had the same problem and he had to be put under anistesia so he could get his teeth pulled and cleaned. This is a problem that commenly shows up in small dogs especially chihuahuas. I know you said you don't live somewhere where there is care available, so I suggest you go some where before the problem gets worse.

Just make sure she has many things to chew on. My female German Sheppard would chew anything she could get her mouth on, including tree branches. Get hard things for her to chew on. You might even see if she would chew on an ice cube. Some dogs love 'em. Some pups like veggies, so try a carrot or a potato. Someone Else's old shoe ( not a shoe of any one she knows, may cause her to chew on your shoes.)

Since she is so small try an empty medicine bottle with/out the top. A jacks ball in a sock. Let your imagination guide you but keep your common sense.

Teething, as like our babies, vary between individuals. Some are late bloomers and I wouldn't worry.

I say as long as her atittiude is still good and it doesn't affect her eating and she isn't avoiding eating..that she should be fine. Let nature take its course.
