what do people think of this. i have a springer spaniel, but since my ex left i have had to work longer hours. my son walks him when he gets in from school and feeds him, and my daughter who is at uni is at home with him a lot of the time, but i do feel he needs more. we cant bear to rehouse him though, cos we love him so much, but i sort of know someone who would be willing to look after him 2 or 3 days a week for us, almost like a foster carer ha ha. my son doesnt want me to do it but i am thinking of the dog. he is such a loving boy and really well behaved and i know he would love it and soon settle in and if he didnt then i wud keep him with us. what does anyone think of this idea

Well, I think that if your family (Your Son and Daughter) can teamwork to take care of him, I would prefer him to be staying with you instead of someone else taking care of him although it is only for 2-3 days.
Why? Simple Reasons:
1. He is part of a Family now and it takes time to adjust to so called "two families" with different method of communication and lifestyle.
2. Just Like People who changes after adjusting to different environment, your Dog might brings home problems that was not there before. I mean it can be behavior or even health problem.
3. I believe no one can take care of him better than your family.
However I still feel that if your dog will be neglected because of your busyness and your son and daughter couldn't take care of him too, then your choice of foster carer will be next best things to do.
But I suggest you really do your homework on this someone before you entrusted this person to take care of your dog whom you dearly love
So that's my take on your questions.
Hope this help.

No One be mad at me for this my vet said it was ok..
I have a Black Lab, Pembroke Welsh corgi, and a Shi-poo. I am a child...... I go to school with my sister. My parents go to work from 7-5. and my 2 brothers are in college. The dogs stay outside from 6-3. Then once we get home from school, we immidatly take them for a walk, feed them, and then just let them run the house. We do that every day besides the weekends. Then my parents still go to work, and me/sis just play with them for a few hours then let them stay outside until feeding time.
We have never considered this, but if you really think that the dog is not getting enough attention you could always get a new puppy or older dog.
Hope you do wat you think it best for you and your dog!!

Have you ever thought of doggie daycare. There are lots of places thoughout the county that do this. Dogs get to play with people other dogs and sometimes get some traiing. Look in the yellow pages, or yahoo yellow pages. You might find a local place on an online seach. Easy way is to call your vet they usually know who is doing doggie daycare. Just make sure your dogs shots are up to date and get it a kennel cough vaccination.

i own a springer spaniel too and he get about the same as yours. before getting your 'foster carer' why not try starting agility or flyball with him, its something you can do on a night and on a weekend. i do agility with my dog and he loves it but i cant do flyball with him as he tends to run off with the ball and not come back. lol. anyway, both are good excerise and mental stimulation for the dog.
hope this helps

Doggy Day Care is the perfect answer for you. I highly recommend it for everyone. 2 or 3 days a week and the dog gets to socialize with other dogs and other people. A well run doggy day care is the best thing in the world for dogs of all ages and breeds.

if possible you should try and get home at dinner time to let him out if not then you should seriously think of rehoming him for his sake its not fair on him being stuck on his own all day not to metion if hes shut in all the time i no you must love him and dont want to lose him but you must also think of his quality of life as well and put his well being above your feelings as your responsilbe for him also springers need alot of stimulation they are a working dog so need to have thier mind worked at well as thier body you should think of getting him a kong and stuffing it with nice food also an activity ball and if possible try him at a bit of agility or fly ball anything to keep him happy and healthy

Sounds as if your dog is a really lucky boy. If he wasn't getting emough attention, he'd let you know. I wouldn't leave my dog with anyone else unless I could trust them 100%. Dogs are quite happy to be at home as long as he has a fixed pattern to his day & gets plenty of attention when you and your family are there, he'll be fine.

when you have spare time or on a weekend go out on a picnic with your family and dog or a long walk somewhere you haven't been.
