If you are living with someone, is it normal to pay 50/50 for absolutely everything? I have just paid for two long hault plane tickets to go on vacation, and thought that he would pay all the hotels in the vacation destination, but then he came up with somehting like "that wd be 50/50 for the hotels"... I do not like to think I've been stupid?
Thanks!

thanks for your answers! forgot to mention an important detail: the reason I feel bad is that he is currently looking for a job, but that's been the case for quite a while now. He helped me out in the past (I was unemployed for 6 month some years ago, and he lended me some money), so now I feel bad to make him pay, but at the same time, I feel sort of ... used!

Well in some things. In other things I think the guy should pay. But then again I am old school. As for Hotels and plane tickets and such I think it should be 50/50.

Well if he hasn't paid for his half and it doesn't look as though he'd be offering to pay for the hotels and such then bring it up with him. Especially if you are living together you need to talk about money issues. Money is the number one reason couples break up, so talk about it and come up with a plan you two can agree on.

yeah i do. its bl**dy annoying. i've been pretty used to being treated like a princess in the past, having everything paid for, doors opened, bags carried etc. this man is all about going halves and doesnt carry my cases or do anything remotely gentlemanly... but he makes me laugh and i adore him.. so i guess you just have to decide what things you compromise on in a mate. I'm assuming he'll be paying for his ticket right? if not, then u have to insist upon it - wont be rude as thats his idea for the hotels.

Ask him for 50% of the plane tickets if that's the way he is. My relationship all money is ours, so we never think who is paying for what, it is who has the money on them right now!

Come on Sal........you know whats going on.....hell yes, it's supposed to be 50/50 and if you have to ask him , you are only in for a big disappointment later. Some one who loves you would not do this............When are you girls going to wise up.....aren't you guys tired of us guys using you for what we can, then when someone else ,we think is better comes along, we dump you , owing you all this money.........come on Sal.......you deserve better! and you know it!!!!

It would be refreshing if the woman actually did pay half of the bills and provided half of the income. This is usually not the case. It seems women only want equality when it suits their interests.

If it's something that one of us bought just for ourselves, then there's no reason to split. The rest of the time, I prefer to enjoy the equality my feminist foremothers worked so hard to get for me.
