A Christian is one who believes and follows the teachings of Jesus Christ. He does not pick and choose which of Jesus' commands he wishes to follow. He obeys them all. How then can Catholics claim to be Christian when they blatently disregard Jesus' command that his followers NOT be called by such religious titles as "father"?

Well.......If you're asking if the Roman Catholic Church is a TRUE Christian Church and it's congregation to be a church that is chock full of the practices that Jesus Christ himself said He "despises" like......... half truths and misconceptions, misinterpretations, lawlessness, paganism, ritualism, mysticism, idolatry, adding to Scripture or taking away......preaching a false doctrine, practicing the traditions of men and having a form of Godliness but denying it's power.........then no, Catholics are not true Christians.

Catholics are the original Christians, and everbody else is just a wannabe. The Catholic Church is the one true Church. Protestants all claim to be the right faith, but what is the backing behind that? They claim to follow scripture, but they don't have any basis to even create their own faith. I believe Martin Luther made some good changes, and that reformation helped the Catholic Church more than it hurt it.
You need to ask yourself a few questions.
Who decided which books went in the bible? The Catholic Church.
Who founded the Church? St. Peter of course, and he built it as the Catholic Church. Catholic means Universal. There can only be one universal Church and that is the Catholic Church.
Anyone that thinks that Catholic aren't true Christians needs to research history a little better, and actually read what the Catholic Church believes. I recommend reading any of Karl Keating's books and finding out for yourself what the Catholic Church truly represents, not what your brainwashed pastor, or friends tell you.
If you have any more questions let's discuss on IM.
Peace

Being Catholic is a religion. Every religion is man made. Where in the bible does it say be Catholic, or any religion?
God never mentions a religion, but to be in relationship with Christ makes you a Christian. Many people practice religion but few are saved.
Having a relationship with Christ makes you a Christian.
I am a born again Christian brought up Catholic and I have sinned. I am not happy for my bad choice but I ask God to forgive me and that I am sorry and I will whole heartily try again. I may fall into the same temptation again but my heart being for and in Jesus I do overcome. Once you overcome you have learned Jesus' way and will not go back and do that again. I am saved by faith in Jesus and God forgives my spirit through His grace and mercy. I am saved. I have salvation. I sin and learn and follow and get rewarded by God in very special ways. Peace, hope, love, joy are just a few things I have besides being sure of going to heaven.

God picks those that are Christ followers not religions. I have known born again Christians from many religions. When you belong to the Catholic Church it does not mean you are a Christian. Perhaps in name only but
God looks at your heart.

i belieave that when Christ returns he will recignize 7 tribes on this earth as his people and the name on the religion isnt important . christian is a word not a belief straight from Christ hed have said put this word on every church door if christian was the only way he allowed. no one is best or better than another except threw faith and works . the jews are his chosen people for obvious reasons . they will come first because they have been last over the ages. Christ is all you need in your life and if you seek him out and do his words then your saved no matter what church your going to . let the unsaved worry about the names and when they come close let them know the truth . when moses asked God to give him his name God knew this was a mistake to give anyone such a defineing power of one name or creed so he said tell them that i am sent you . by doing this he was saying im the one and only God and my name isnt important because theres no others in reality but me because every other is false and manmade but i am real and alone in this fact .

Its not any ones place to judge whether another is truly a Christian. It leads to judgementalism and finger pointing. Your statement about following Jesus's commands and teachings is very concrete, leaves little room for humanness, and negates the very reason He went to the cross. God the Father set the standard in the commandments. God the Son came to Earth to experience what it is like to be human. His sacrifice on the cross was made without judgment and sent forth the message of forgiveness for human failings.

It is impossible to give a universal statement on the salvation of all members of any denomination of Christianity. Not ALL Baptists are saved. Not ALL Presbyterians are saved. Not ALL Lutherans are saved. Salvation is determined by personal faith in Jesus alone for salvation, not by titles or denominational identification. Despite the unbiblical beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church, there are genuine believers who attend Roman Catholic churches. There are many Roman Catholics who have genuinely placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. However, these Catholic Christians are believers despite what the Catholic Church teaches, not because of what it teaches. To varying degrees, the Catholic Church teaches from the Bible and points people to Jesus Christ as the Savior. As a result, people are sometimes saved in Catholic churches. The Bible has an impact whenever it is proclaimed (Isaiah 55:11). Catholic Christians remain in the Catholic Church out of ignorance of what the Catholic Church truly stands for, out of family tradition and peer pressure, or out of a desire to reach other Catholics for Christ.

At the same time, the Catholic Church also leads many people away from a genuine faith relationship with Christ. The unbiblical beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church have often given the enemies of Christ opportunity to blaspheme. The Roman Catholic Church is not the church that Jesus Christ established. It is not a church that is based on the teachings of the Apostles (as described in the Book of Acts and the New Testament epistles). While Jesus’ words in Mark 7:9 were directed towards the Pharisees, they accurately describe the Roman Catholic Church, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!”

I'm not Catholic, but I believe they are Christians since they believe in the Bible and follow Jesus Christ's teachings. I don't think people should go around deciding if other religions are Christians. Why do you care anyways? It seems so judgemental. People should be more concerned with if they are acting as true Chtristians.

I know catholics that firmly believe in Jesus Christ and the fundamentals of Christianity and rebuke pergatory thinking and praying to saints and Mary and they are believers in spite of the catholic church. They attempt to change the church that they are attending to agree with the Word of God. So yes, some catholics are true Christians like some Christians are true Christians.

Jesus said, some will holler "Lord, Lord and He will say I never knew you."

Make sure your heart is His and that He is put first in your life.

As a Catholic, I am taught that all who are Baptized share Christianity with me and they are my brothers and sisters. As brothers and sisters, we together should be uniting for Christ instead of diving. Certainly, some feel that the Church's authority on matters of sexual issues (divorce, contraception, and female priests) want a more cafeteria life style.
