What I mean is that before having my daughter I imagined that being a Mum would create the same homely feeling I always had when I came in from school and kicked my shoes off etc at my parents house.. so far I just feel on duty all the time and so this house does not feel like a home.. is this common?

It is because you are the one doing the work, it will feel this way for awhile until you get a pattern going and mature a little more. Being a new mom is hard work and lots of responsibility, don't be too hard on yourself!

I make sure our house is a home - it is a safe warm loving environment for my children to come home to each day. Parents can try too hard sometimes and totally miss the bigger picture - children want parents to play with them and love them and spend time with them - you need to loosen up and relax and stop feeling like you are on duty all the time and just have fun with your daughter.

If you feel 'on duty' all the time perhaps you are
being a little houseproud!!
I know what you mean though. You get the housework
done then when they come from work and school within
minutes its like a bomb sight. Then you start all over
again. Mine does feel like a home, the kids friends like
to come here and we make them welcome. In fact I
thought of putting a B & B sign up. I'm sure it wouldn,t
look out of place.

Ask your parents. They will probably tell you that you were exactly the same. Your daughter wouldnt behave like this if she didn't feel "at home"

yes it is. i sometimes feel all i do is cook for and clean up after myself, my husband and my daughter ( not that i mind doing it for her). as for my husband he eats here, sleeps here, goes out with his mates or to play football in clothes that i clean for him and then dares say that i have it easy cause i work less hours than he does and that i'm home most days!
the saying this is a house not a hotel springs to mind!

i have to totally agree with you.. even though i like to keep house tidy and have it how i like it still doesnt feel like 'home' in the homely sense....it just feels like a house i live in and have to eat, sleep and clean in....i just hope when my kids are older they remember it as being a homely place and its all in my head

it might suggest that you are feeling anxious about your child's general well being. depending on your child's age try giving them a little independance. Remember childeren arn't pets! they have a devious mind of their own. lol
