There are several ways to do this in iPhoto. Cropping doesn't exactly "resize" a photo. Try using the Help menu within iPhoto for more info.

If you'd like a more advanced image editor like Adobe Photoshop, you could try The GIMP for Mac OS X. Just Google it. The GIMP is open source and therefore free. It's a rather large download, though.

If The GIMP is a little over the top, I'm sure there's plenty of tools for this that can be found on Apple's Mac OS X Downloads page. In fact, I believe I saw one yesterday. Here's a link to the site:

I took a look at the site myself and found one within a minute, here's the link:

Your question is a little vague, so this answer is also for new users.

When you "resize" an image you still see the entire image but the file size changes. So, as an example, a file that was 1600 X 1200 pixels originally and 1MB in size, would be 640 X 480 pixels and less then 250 MB in size. Making a file smaller is easy, making it larger usually causes a loss of detail.

Search Google for "resize images on Mac" without the quotes. In addition to applications, there are some online photo resizing sites.

If you only want to remove unneeded parts of a photo, you can use iPhoto, included in OS X, to crop the image. The trick is to open the photo first, then click on the "Crop" button below the image.

In either case, remember to "Save as" and save with a new file name so you don't lose the original.
