firstly there is no trying, there is only DO.....

I have stopped myself recently and I am finding it easy, get the book, EASYWAY to stop smiking by Allen Carr - good book, helped me out big time.

Good luck and be patient with your partner, praise him even when you think he doesnt want to hear about it.

As others have said, it is not easy by any means! Irritability apparently can last from a few days to several, on some occasions longer.
Agreed about hints to be supportive and not become barking mad. I suspect a good many hints can be found online.
Good luck to the both of you.

Well, in order to "be more supportive", as everyone else has said, you might want to read through some "Quitting Smoking" brochures. Yes, I know you're not the one quitting, but you'll gain some insight on what it's like for the other person.

If this is someone who has been smoking for years, realize that the nicotine withdrawal is very difficult. Imagine that you're never relaxed or calm, that you always want to put something in your mouth, that you're always hungry. (And I mean always.) How do you think you can help them?

Suggest Nicotine replacement meathods! I am quitting and it is no picnic, but I can't imagine doing it without the patch. I am happier with the patch than I am with cigarrettes because it regulates the amount, and then you step down. If that is out of the question, there are also lozenges and gum which can take the edge off.

Good luck!

Be more supportive - it is so bloody hard to give up and even worse if there is no support for you. The mood swings will soon pass
