She has some sort of fascination with my room, but I can't let her stay in there because it is where my bird lives and I have lots of small objects that could choke her. I've tried blocking the door, allowing her in to roam around while I watched her, and bringing her back out again, but nothing has been having any real effect on her. SHe still sits in wait outside my door, waiting for it to open.

I do close the door! She just runs past whenever I open it to come in or out, and in the dark (she's a black cat) I end up closing the door with her halfway through...

I'm trying to kitten proof the room, but it's taking awhile, seeing how it's all arranged around stuff being all over the floor, and she likes to jump anyway. Thanks for the ideas, though!

Okay, just a response to everything that I keep reading- she's not my cat, she belongs to my stepmother technically (a "family" cat) so although I love her it isn't me that bought her. And my bird is stuck in my room because we've had at least one cat for quite awhile, plus he's a parakeet who adores the breeze and all from outdoors, so he'd get lost if we let him out of the one room. (Yup, I'm overly defensive...) ANd I won't hurt my cat to keep her from getting hurt!

Thank you all for the astounding response!

Well keep the door shut. If she waits near the door then you can use a spray bottle and spray her. They hate that.

Never EVER spank your cat because then it will learn to become 'hand shy' and even when you want to pet it, the cat will think you want to spank it again.

You can't keep your kitten out of your bedroom it's really not fair, make sure the bird is in a cage and get on your hands and knees and pick up anything that will hurt her, she has to learn the word no so you have to train her so when your home let her in your room and train her, cats are smart she'll learn quickly. But keeping her out only makes her want in more and a cat should be able to have the run of the whole house. You sound like a really good cat mom, but I think your worrying to much, start teaching her no. She'll be okay. Just be sure to put curling iron cords away. Good luck it will work trust in the cat and yourself.

Well since YOU know she is there every time you open the door throw a towel over her she will soon learn to run when your door is opened. Or you can you put one of those child proof things across the door, that's what they do to keep kids out of a room. The only down fall is that you have to step over it all the time. And soon she will remember that when your door is opened she will have to jump over that child proof thing. How about hanging the cage so she can't reach it. She wants that bird that is what her fascination is to your room, cats aren't know to put things in there mouth, unless it's a bird. G OOD LUCK

As an owner of several cats I can say you may be fighting a losing battle. I don't allow any of our cats into the computer room, so guess where they always want to go ? You could try a diversionary plan but it probably won't work. I have found that the best course of action to be to simply let her come in with supervision of course and just accept the fact that she 's a cat and will do as she darn well pleases. Emmie's Dad

Why put yourself through it? Just kitten-proof the room and let her in. For night time when cats get "busy" and keep you awake rummaging around, put her to bed 2 rooms away with doors in between. That's what we do with ours.

Too much temptation!Besides it smells like you, comfort zone to her. Good luck.Try closing the door, and putting clear -something-on the door frame cause she'll scratch the wall to get in.

Your house probably has small objects everywhere. Don't worry so much. Kitten doesn't know bird is a bird. Don't (see above)
Let her in. She wants to be your friend. This is a no brainer.
