What is the correct name for the part that engauges the 4 wheel drive selections . This part is located outside the Trans.

Do anyone know the proceedure to replace this?

4 wheel drive actuator motor pretty simple tochange remove bolts unplug the wires whenn putting new onein make sure the end of the motor lines up with the slot on the transfer case ttighten bolts and plug in

Are you referring to the input shaft? if so then that is the proper name. As for replacing any part of a drive unless you are equipped to do so then do not attempt it as since it is a rotating shaft and requires a centrifuge balance, i do not recommend doing so.
