Here's one for you-concentrate!

3 men go to a motel and pay ten dollars each for a room costing thirty dollars. Off they go to their room.

A little later the motel manager comes into work and tells the receptionist that sold the room that it should have only been twenty five dollars, and to take the extra five dollars to the men.

On her way to the room to re pay the money, the receptionist thinks 'well five cannot be easily divided by three', so she puts two dollars in her pocket and gives the men a dollar each back.

So are you listening? The men paid ten dollars each, then recieved a dollar each back, so they have each paid nine dollars for the room, 3x9=27, and the receptionist has two dollars in her pocket, 27+2=29.

So where did that other dollar go?

Read it again, and concentrate! First right answer gets the points!

No.. slight mistake in perspective.. it should be looked at in the following manner
it is $25 (for the room) + $3 returned + $2 the lady pocketed = $30 (10 x 3 that the guys contributed)

or (10 x 3) (contributed) - 3 (returned) - 2 (pocketed) = 25 (price of the room)

you are making the mistake of doing a 27 + 2 - actually its 27 - 2 which gives you the room price

Hope this is the best answer

Where did the missing dollar go? Nowhere. A dollar only goes "missing" because the statement "each man paid $9 for the room" is wrong -- each of three men paid out a total of $9, but that $9 included both the room charge and the bellboy's tip. All in all, each man paid out a total of $9 and had $1 left over, completely accounting for the $30 they started with.

Easy each person payed $10 then then the receptionist takes $2 so the room cost $28 then each one got $1 back which makes $25
