The doctors would not want to give chemo to someone with a current infection because chemo reduces your immune system further and would prevent recovery from the infection, but I imagine once that has been treated they will start it, if that is what they have suggested to your family. There are two different types of lung cancer, and one has a worse prognosis or life expectancy than the other because it is faster-growing. Chemo can certainly help to delay the advance but I would advise you and your family to talk to her doctors for more accurate information. I'm afraid that spread into the liver is not a good sign, but again you should speak to someone with specific information about your aunt's condition. I'm sorry that you are having to go through this, and I pray that your aunt gets her treatment and it goes smoothly.

You have to discuss your aunt's specific disease with her physician. Unfortunately, I have heard it said that with the exception of a single metastasis of colon cancer to the liver which can be surgically removed successfully. People whose cancer gets into the liver have about 6 months.. God bless.

I'm really sorry, but even if she does get chemo this will only prolong her life and not save her. Once cancer is in the bones or the liver it is terminal I'm afraid.
