Hi, visit http://www.tourismthailand.org for information and attractions in Bangkok. The must do are visits to the better temple like Grand Palace and Emerald Temple, largest lying Buddha at Wat Po, nearby Emerald Temple.
Next a river cruise along the Chao Phraya River. If you like you can even take a canal cruise to see the local way of life.
Shopping is great there. There are a number of good shopping spots, like Mah Boonkhrong Center, Siam Paragon, Siam Square, all just next to each other, ot further up the road to Gaysorn Plaza, Central World Plaza, Isetan etc. If you are there over the weekend, then Chatuchak weekend market is not to be missed. Suan Luum Night Bazaar will help while away your night time.
There are other tours available based on your likeing, like the floating market at Damnoen Saduak, elephant and cultural show, snake show etc.
You will find these in the website above. Oh, and have a typical Thai meal. It will be delicious.
You can email me at thaitourinfo@yahoo.com if you have any special interest in mind.
Have a happy holiday, you will enjoy Bangkok.

A week in Bangkok is a long visit if you hate traffic jams and crowds. Though a visit to Wat Prakeaw (well known royal temple) is a must. If you want to get out of Bangkok for a day, then check with your hotel. They usually have tour packages outside of Bangkok area to 'floating market' or to the old city of 'Ayuddhaya city' and beaches like Hua Hin or Cha am which have less crowded beaches than Pattaya. Since you will be in Bangkok, don't forget to set a day for shopping. Keep in mind that traffic jam is very common there and it will take longer to get from place to place. Have a good trip and enjoy your visit.

I don't really know of some other famous locations in other parts of Thailand, but for the less known beaches try going to Khao Lak, an hour or so north of Phuket Island. It is a beautiful, exotic coastline, and is much less crowded than Phuket.

Why not use your last 2 days in Bangkok for shopping and sights. Use the other 5 days for better places.
From Bkk you have 1,5 hour to Kanchanaburi, where you can discover stunning nature, rainforest, jungle, caves, tigertemple, waterfalls, hilltribes, River Kwai bridge, traintrips along mountain sides, elephant riding, rafting etc.
From Bkk you have 2,5 hours to the island Koh Samet

From Bkk you have 2 hours to Hua Hin
