My sister had tried pushing me for years to follow her christian beliefs and I follow a lot of them but I cannot follow all of them because i believe in being a free thinker and i think some of the christian beliefs are discriminating and wrong. Anyway I tried but i lied to myself trying to believe things in ways other christians believe but i can not. It caused me so much stress and anxiety and i hated it. So i decided that i want to just be me and think for myself. I do follow a lot of christian beliefs but I cannot follow them all or a lot of them. I decided i just want to be free to be me and there is nothing ugly about that. ANyway my sister does not know that i have decided this and when she finds out and she will she will flip out. She can be so mean and judgemental. She started lecturing me when she found out i was doing yoga. What do i say to a strict christian when she finds out that i just want to think my way and not the way the church tries to make people think?

I hate to admit this but there are a lot of christians who are to harsh about chrisitanity, the bible teaches gentleness and compassion, and does allow you to be yourself not a clone, we are all created different and we think different thats the way GOD made us, however there certain things that the bible is very specific about the things we do and how we do them, these are not ment to control our thinking but to avoid problems in the future, for example, if I said to you dont put a gun to your head and pull the trigger I am not trying to control you but to save your life as it will not turn out good for you and those who care about you, a church that is trying to control the way you think is called a cult, stay away from that , a real church will urge to search the bible and seek GOD and find out for yourself what the right thing to do or think is, but the first step is to establish a relationship with him and let him and him alone guide you, you will find your life is better with him than without him...

I believe it is important for you to tell your sister you need time to think about what you believe in. She is pushing you away and hindering your thoughts. One must be free to think, research and study what they want. She cannot make anyone conform to her beliefs.

Also, ask her to back up her beliefs with facts instead of making generalized statements. I say this because of your comment of her judging you, she does not have the authority to judge.

I want you to know I am a Christian person, I do not push my beliefs on others. Below is the definition of a Christian. I truly hope this helps you.

A Christian is someone who is a follower of Christ. The first use of the word "Christian" in the Bible is found in Acts 11:26, "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch." It is found only twice more in Acts 26:28 and 1 Pet. 4:16. However, it is important to note that it is the true Christ that makes someone a Christian.

Peace.

Well first I apologize for Christians as you should not feel this way at all.

Your sister should not be judgemental. She should be helping you.

Yoga? I need more explanation.

What beliefs did you find discriminating and wrong anyway? You might be involved with a denomination that isn't following God anyway.

I am a free thinker and believe in God and follow his ways. I go to a non denominational church and it is a lot easier when the church is focused on what God wants not what a pope or a pastor is telling you.

BTW your relationship with your creator is personal. I smoke cigarettes and am being convicted of it. But that is between me and the Lord. I try not to, I try not to swear, I try not to be bitter, I try and try but the Lord is the only one that can change you.

My suggestion is to pray this:

Lord let your will be done in my life. I know you love me and you said you would never forsake me. I am a child of yours. Please be with me now in my time of trouble and help open my eyes and change my heart. I thank you for my sister and her steadfastness. I thank you for helping me understand her and I pray that you help the communication between us be fruitful. Let no form of malice come from my mouth . . . . . . . and my favorite prayer . . . . . . The Jabez prayer . . . . . . "Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!"

God Bless

Don't see how it is that Christian teaching can make you not a "free thinker?" There are, of course, rules and laws to live by in the Christian teachings and a line must be drawn somewhere. Right and wrong are plain and simple, black and white, if you will.
But you do not explain just what "thinking your way" encompasses so we have no way to answer. And I do not understand what your sister would have to object to as far as yoga. Didn't know Christian teachings had anything to say about that.

She is just going to have to understand that you don't think the same way as her. Unfortunate that she is mean and judgemental as that is not really a Christian quality. Much of my family is very religious. It is difficult because they spent a lot of time trying to impose their beliefs on me. Eventually, they lightened up, since they realize being in my face about it all day isn't going to get me back in church. If she is going to flip out, just let her. Hopefully she'll calm down and back off.

What kind of church does your sister go to? What has yoga got to do with Christ? Christianity does not require you to adhere to the controlling dictates of a church. Churches are made by people. "The Church", that is, the true body of Christ's followers, who may or may not attend "a church", do not feel the need to control every aspect of people's lives, thoughts, and opinions. That kind of control is only sought after by men and women. And speaking of control, why does your sister have so much over you? If you don't want to go to her church, just tell her.

There is a verse in the Bible that says that people must work out their own salvation. It's in the New Testament and I believe are the words of Paul, but I don't remember where. If you can mention that, it might help.

Offer respect for her beliefs and ask her for hers. But, I wouldn't mention it at all unless it comes up. If she's really bothering badly, it may be more helpful to you to confide in someone you both know, if at all possible.

I know sorry for the lecture, i think Yoga is fine, I just am very concerned about the meditatio portion because of the frame state of mind the meditation puts your mind in, it weaknes the mind and sometimes demons can come in and possess you. You can chose to believe that or not, its just a warning clause, I know many Christians that take the Yoga anyways and meitate on what they read in the word (the Bible) that day and try to tune out the instructors voice on what they are saying about meditation to the class. You can think about God and how wonderful he is and/or pray for the people in your Yoa class that God will take the blinders off their eyes and become saved and see the light and not become demonized, hehehe ect.

What you have just described sounds nothing like the Church Christ died for. The Church of Christ teaches only what God says in his holy inspired word the Bible.
Yes, we have to live for God, and let God guide our lives.
To be a true Christian one must strive to be Christ like.
Christ taught others through love, kindness, sincerity, and yes
forgiveness.
When the woman was about to be stoned after getting caught in the act of adultery by the men in John 8:7 Jesus said, He that is
without sin, cast the first stone....they all left , from the eldest to the youngest. Jesus said to her, where are thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee? She said , No man, Lord.....Jesus said
unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
Then Jesus said, I am the light of the world.......
