society has been informed over the years about global warming but still elect to use products that affect our environment. Do you think that we are not presenting global warming in a magnitude for people to understand what will happen?

In all reality people it is simply that it is difficult to convince people of something based on dare I say it. Circumstantial evidence. There is proof concrete that we are damaging our evironment but not much solid to prove that it is on the scale that everyone says it is.
I feel that people should seek alternative forms of energy and sustenence but the question remains. How much do we truly know about what will happen as the world heats up. Will this so called "Ice Age" consume us all? Doubtfull.
These climatic shifts that are threatened have been happening since the dawn of time. Long before man long before the dinosaurs and long before basically any organism was able to effect any change what so ever.
Where I live in Ireland last summer there were a group of so called "Eco Warriors" going around in a Vw bus putting big stickers on vehicles of large Jeep owners telling them they were killing the world.
I however caught hold of one of them as he was doing it to mine.
He then proceeded with the help of his 2 buddies to tell me how my ill ways would destroy the world and why couldnt I buy a car that was better for the evironment. I aksed him how come he was driving a vehicle that produced more carbon emmissions and pollution of every kind that 10 of my diesel vehicles combined? He told me that there were less of the type of vehicle he drove on the road then there were of mine. He then proceeded to tell me that. It was my fault that the rainforests were being destroyed and that I should be ashamed of my life and my earth harming choices. To settle this stupid stupid discussion. I open my wallet and showed him my ID. I think as soon as he saw the words "Forest Service" written on my work ID card he shut up fairly quick. I then finished it by telling him that without vehicles like the one he was complaining about that people like me couldnt do their jobs and the world they were trying to save would be a whole lot worse off. He removed his stupid little sticker and walked away without a word.
I think to be honest that a lot of pollution is caused by many things that simply CAN NOT be taken away. Without these things life and society will cease to be.
Without my Land Rover I could not support, plant and maintain the forests in which I work. And there is no way an electric or alternative vehicle could do the work old Betsy does.
Computers, Infrastructure, Construction, Heat, Electricity, Food.
Until long term, and above all cheap and practical alternitives are availible for all the world to use then I am afraid that we will continue to use big vehicles and produce in industry in a less than "Environmentally Friendly" fashion.
Sorry Guys but I dont feel like carrying trees on my back for 15 miles to plant them 40 times a day. However if anyone out thereis that concerned about the impact my vehicle has on the environment then by all means walk up here and strap all of the equipment to your back along with about 200kgs of trees and I'll see you at the planting site.
Our way forward is not through fear but through using our minds to find VIABLE solutions to our needs as people and not just fear and hate mongering.

Global warming is at the fore front because politicians found how to use a new platform to get re-elected. The world leaders use it because they found ways to make money at it. This is a made up problem just like Global Cooling in the 1970's. Wake up people. I agree we need to be more efficient with our resources, and we should fine and jail companies who are dumping into our rivers maliciously. I want to stop the raiforest destruction, but to say that global warming is a serious man made issue and we need to destroy the American economy and bow down to the rest of the world certainly does not float my boat. Follow the money on this one and you will see that it is all for political gain and grant money for those scientists who profit off of the government if global warming stays at the front of the issues. Look deep into the Keoto (sp?) Treaty, first of all they took jets to a non-central resort location. Not very environmentally concious. THen in the parameters of the treaty they have a clause that makes it so you can buy or sell polution credits. This is all about shifting wealth and breaking down the United States. This is painfully obvious, just look at peoples agenda. The earth's mean temperature has risen .6 degrees C in the past 125 years. Greenland's icecaps have gotten colder in the past 10 years. The Scientists who do not gain anything on their posisition will tell you that the earth has a natural progression and this is what we are seeing. The UN report is made up of POLITICIANS not a good spread of scientists. THere are as many or more scientists who believe that man in NOT the reason and it is over hyped, but their voice is not heard in the LIberal Mainstream Media. This issue is 99% political, and an attempt to make the USA a socialist nation, and eventually communisim. WAKE UP AMERICA, IT IS TIME TO BE AMERICANS. FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE. STOP THE LIES

It is much easier to change your habit before buying a $20,000 car than after you have one in your garage. You must be highly convinced (and motivated) that the car is causing a global disaster before you will scrap a perfectly good car. This applies to many other personal investments. At present steps are being taken (even in the USA) to reduce carbon emissions and pollution without sacrificing jobs and exporting the jobs to countries with even less restrictions. As science improves and the threat is better understood and alternatives are developed and made cost effective progress will be made. In the meantime would you allow "carbon police" to enter your house and dictate how you personally should reduce global carbon. Would smokers willingly quit to save a few unnecessary puffs of carbon? Would you join the "carbon police" and shut down your neighbors or is freedom of choice still more important? Tough questions.

In general, society is slow to act on anything-change is hard to adapt. The problem is that if we are too dramatic in our warnings they will be ignored.
