I can only answer for the Yorkie side since my sister has a yorkie. He's a playful dog and has learned quickly. He does seem to be hyper...as most small dogs are, but he does have his settling down moments. Although they tend to be a one-person dog, there are 3 children in the family and he gets along with them just fine. He doesn't seem to shed much and my sister does get him clipped...more so in the warmer months than the colder months. I'm thinking Westies may be about the same. :)

Yorkie by far. I have two and they are the greatest dogs ever. they were very easy to train and they listen very well. They are also great loving pets.

I like Yorkies better, to me, they are more of a loyal, and obedient pet.
