County Down - and don't forget, they only call it County Durham (a proud person would have used capitals....) so that the people in it don't forget. Otherwise they'd all think they were Geordies.......

In England and Scotland, it is the only one nowadays and you are perfectly correct. It is the only one that has County in front of a town name, though, according to Wikipedia, Cheshire used to be called "County of Chester", Hampshire "County of Southhampton" and Shropshire "County of Salop".
