I accidentally sent a VERY important file (about 200 pictures) to my recycle bin and deleted it. (I meant to delete another file instead) Any way to recover it?

When you deleted the file from the Recycle Bin, Windows cut off part of the filename, meaning Windows can no longer locate the file.

It can usually be recovered by a forensic computer expert, but is pretty expensive to do. You'd have to leave your computer with the shop for a while.

If you can't do the restore from the recycle bin, you are going to need to use a file recovery program. I use one called Recover My Files that I purchased at Best Buy for $40.

NOTE: Given that you have deleted the files, you may want to keep your computer in an inactive state until you can recover the data. Deleting the data will notify the OS that the underlying disk space is available for use. If you have a large disk, your data may not overwrite for some time but a small disk increases the chance that reuse of the underlying disk may occur.

Recovering Files From The Recycle Bin

Double click on the Recycle Bin icon on the Desktop to open it.

Gently click on the file you want to restore until it becomes highlighted.

Then click on the word File, which is contained in your top tool bar area.

This will pull down a menu for you to now click on the word Restore.

The file will now be restored back to the exact location it was accidentally deleted from.

Now close the Recycle Bin window to return back to your windows session.

Note: You can also select the file you want to recover by holding the left mouse button on it.

Then you can pull it out of the Recycle Bin by dragging it directly onto the Windows Desktop.

Note: This Technical Brief Will Work For All Operating Systems Including Windows XP.

No way to undelete if you deleted from recycle bin. However, you can take it to a professional and if you have not written over that part of the drive they can find it for you.

You could also try a Restore. Take the date back to before you deleted file. This did work for me once. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and down to Restore.

Do you have rapid restore? I am able to revert my computer back to an earlier date from a backup of my harddrive that my comp makes every week or so. Check that first. You can retrieve files from the DOS prompt but it is not for a novice.

Try this or progs like this is the easiest way of getting your file back:

Try this program: http://www.majorgeeks.com/FreeUndelete_d4407.html

In the meantime, DO NOT delete anything else, try not to save anything else other than the program above, and try not to use the PC much more than needed. And most importantly: DO NOT DO A DEFRAG!!!!!!!!!
