It's white, cloudy, occasionally has bits of mucus (green or yellow) in it, and i sometimes cough so hard it flies across the room (ich!). Several times a day. A guy looked down my throat thru my nose but saw nothing. It gets worse after I eat or drink something but can happen anytime. I'm on Protonix to get rid of it, but it's only getting worse. Anyone know what the heck it is?

P.S. This has been going on for nearly a year now.

It sounds like you just need to give it time for the Protonix to work, coughing when you cough stuff up is called a productive cough and is a sign you are actually gettting better. Now if this continues after you've finished taking Protonix, then you need to see Pulmonary doctor. First go back to your own doctor, see what he or she says. But if this is a problem that is on going, it could be a sign you have an allergy to something and the cough and mucus is your bodies reaction to the allergy or you may have Asthma.

Be clear when you talk to your doctor. Patients often fail to ask waht the doctor believes in wrong, what they are prescribing and why and how long it should take for the condition to clear up.

The person whose answer says it's Acid Reflux, sorry he doesn't know what he's talking about. I've had Gastric Reflux, acid reflux, for years and your description of the problem doesn't even come close to fitting the symptoms of Gastric Reflux.

Hope you feel well soon!

Did you just recently get over a cold or do you have a cold now?
It sounds to me like phlem, but when you see bits of green or yellow in it, it could be a sign of infection in the lungs. Stay away from dairy products such as milk and ice cream as this always make phlem worse. If the medication the Dr. gave you does not take it away when you finish the prescription, then I would definitely go back to your Dr. and get him to do some swab tests.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
