To sow means to plant, just like you'd do in a vegetable or flower garden. And to reap means to gather in or receive. For example, if you plant strawberries, then you'll pick strawberries once they grow. Cucumbers won't grow from strawberry plants. Likewise, what you sow in life has a direct relationship to what you'll receive in your life. In other words, your actions all have consequences. Good actions result in good consequences, and bad actions result in bad consequences.
Sometimes we see the immediate results of our actions, such as a good grade on the test we studied for or falling down and skinning our knees after our parents told us not to run on the pavement. And other times, we may not see the results of what we sow–our actions–for a long time, such as not getting a good-paying job when we grow up because we didn't try very hard in school all those years or living to be 98 years old because we ate wisely, and took care of our health. But don't ever be fooled into thinking that your actions don't have consequences. Don't think you can get away with bad choices even if you don't seem to get caught.

You reap what you sow means you harvest what you plant. Reap is a term for cutting down/harvesting crops. Sow means planting seeds or crops. Basically you reap what you sow means you get what you deserve based on previous actions.

Sowing is planting seeds. Reaping is collecting what's grown. So basically how much you are able to harvest is determined by how much you plant.

Or in life terms..... If you are mean and nasty to people then that's how they'll respond to you. Or simply you get what you give.

sowing = planting reaping= harvest
If you plant onions there is no way you will end up with olives.
If you are happy, pleasant, positive etc you will find people, situations and life to be such.
If you are a nasty, grumpy sort- you'll be surrounded by negative.
What you put out there is what you attract.
Ever notice how people who plant flowers don't have nearly as many complaints about life in general as those who scatter weeds?
Be blessed.

Galatians 6:7 "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

Whatsoever kind of grain a man sows in his field, of that shall he reap; for no other species of grain can proceed from that which is sown.

reap = Harvest
sew = plant

what ever you plant is the crop you will harvest.

The confusion comes from the changing language, and both words have fallen out of use in this context.
