Good carbs are called complex carbohydrates. These occur in most foods like fruits, grains, etc. Your body has to break these down to use for fuel. There are good for us and essential for good health. Bad carbs are called simple carbohydrates..such as processed sugar, white flour, etc. These foods have been overly processed. They have all the calories, but no nutritional values of complex carbs. Avoid these as much as you can.

Good carb/bad carb is simply a repackaging of the glycemic index. Foods with a high glycemic load trigger an insulin reaction quickly. Insulin mediates the conversion of excess blood sugar into fat.
Eating too much of anything will ultimately cause you to gain weight, but high glycemics are the worst.
There are occasions where simple sugars are good. Endurance athletes need them during long workouts and races to avoid glycogen depletion and bonk.
For some examples, see below:

carbohydrates are essential for producing energy. the other source of energy is fats . only fats are divided into good or bad . if your diet contains a lot of carbohydrates-- more than your daily requirements, it's bad.
