a man says: ''obrigado por me emprestar o seu livro''
a woman would say ''obrigada'' instead of ''obrigado''

''askaround'' didn't translate very well... I'm Brazilian and can say that what he wrote sounds a little bit weird

"Obrigado por me emprestares o livro" - is the portuguese translation to that sentence.

obrigado para emprestar me o seu livro - speaks a man
obrigada para emprestar me o seu livro - speaks a woman

Actually it would be more impressive if you said "Thank you for lending me your book."
