I'm going for my honeymoon this Summer in California (hollywood / beverly hills area). I am contemplating hiring a car abroad or taxiing everywhere.

I do not know my way around in California, and also car parking in our hotel would cost approx $200 for the duration of our stay. We stand to save several hundred pounds not hiring a car.

Is it possible to go everywhere by taxi and for it to not cost a fortune? And ideally be cheaper than hiring a car?

Unfortunately, taxis are not very cheap in L.A.....especially if you plan to travel anywhere outside L.A....which it sounds like you are... you could easily spend $200 in a day if not careful......(Some really crooked taxi drivers with their short cuts)....I recommend you map out some places you would really enjoy going, then rent a car..... doesn't have to be fancy....try budget rent a car, or enterprise.......book in advance.... then try going to
www.visitcalifornia.com it has a lot of cool stuff about Cali. Hope that help

Your answer is probably going to be a combination of the two.
If you plan in advance and book in the UK you can rent a car from downtown location in Los Angles for approx £20 per day. This includes all the insurance an extras so if you planning visiting attractions quite a bit away it will save you alot of money. Just pick up the car in the morning and drop back to the depot in the afternoon.

Alternatively the fully inclusive cost of hiring for a 1 week holiday in California is only £100 for a basic car or about £170 for a convertible car. Even with car parking you are only looking at £200 for the week. This saves you booking airport transfers and will any taxis. Plus a convertible for your Honeymoon to make it a bit special.

If you do decide to rent a car make sure you do it in the UK. UK tourists get much cheaper rates than if you just turn up at the counter + the price will be inclusive of all insurances and taxes.

Depending on where you stay, you can get around in Hollywood mostly by walking (wouldn't do it at night!). Thats if you stay over by the walk of stars, capital records area. You will probably be going on a lot of tours which probably launch from there.
