Have a 1994 Lincoln Towncar.....sometimes the dinging sound for the seatbelt will not go off. The only way I can stop it is to put something in the driver's door that will make the button go in to stop the dinging......would like to find out how to disconnect it without paying an arm and a leg for mechanic service.
Any ideas?

yes there is one way to fix this problem for free. you do will however need the owners manual. what you do is look in the manual and find the seatbelt fuse or relay. after that all you do is pull it out. that way there will be no dinging, becuse the curcit will not be compleate and no power will get to the speaker.

First, make sure that the button isn't getting pushed in by the door, as this is an adjustable switch. You can do this by putting something on the button top that can transfer to the door when it is closed, grease or peanut butter would work. If you put a small amount on the button and close the door, it should leave some on the door. If it doesn't you can take a pair of needle nose pliers and pull the center part of the switch out. It is best to do this by placing the pliers at a 90 degree angle to the button and applying pressure to bring it out. Then you just simply close the door slowly(don't slam it) and it will push the switch back into the position that it need to be at.
If the door hinges are worn out, which is a common concern, a body shop could readjust the door or replace the hinges to make it close correctly
Hope it helps....

You can do it by going to a auto store and getting a book on your car make model and year. It should have a wiring diagram in it. Find the part that is making the "dinging" and take it out or just cut the wire. But make sure you dont just start cutting wires, read about it and maybe call a dealership because there could be a safety shut off or something were then it wont let your car start but i dont think so

It sounds like either a seized ball joint or a body mount. The usual ball joint check won't pick up a seized unit. You have to disconnect the outer tie rod and manually move the spindle left to right. The only other thing that could cause the floorboards to clunk is a broken body mount at the frame just between the fender and door.

You have either got a bad "door ajar" switch or the sensor in the ignition switch thinks the key is still in the ignition.Turn the car on & see if there is a light on the dash that says "door ajar" if not you probably need an ignition switch.l

i have a 97 mark8. here's what i would do.check the switch, can it be popped out and replaced easily if thats the problem? i don't think there would be one dedicated fuse just for that alarm so that's out.i believe that alarm unit handles other alerts also, but if moneys that tight you could redneck it! while its dinging get under dash with snips and cancell it out! lol
