Cats can be very standoffish, even a kitten. Get her into a room with very few hiding places and close the door, then sit down on the floor in the middle of the room with whatever toys you can get hold of. Have some of them on long strings or fine dowels so that you can bring them back to you without moving too much. Then wait for the kitten to investigate. Don't go after her, although you can roll some of the toys in her direction. Patience is the key to having a cat/kitten come to you willingly. Remember the old saying 'You can never own a cat, they own you' and that is at their leisure.

Don't worry about the hissing. The kitten is probably just getting used to the surroundings. Try to handle the kitten a lot. Make soft noises and caress it as a mother cat would when she preens it. This is very important if the cat is less than six weeks old. If it's older then you may have a bit of an uphill path to walk.
Sit on the floor with the kitten. Put yourself and the kitten in the bathroom and close the door. Just be there with the little thing and enjoy. Slow moves. Nothing quick. Maybe a string for a toy but don't leave it there if you're not there. (Don't want to hear of the kitten getting tangled).
It just takes some time.

Your new cat is going through a very stressful time. The first few weeks should be a time of calm with her staying in the house. Your job is to prevent bad experinces, like very sudden loud noises, being chased by a dog or getting trapped. This is the time to establish routine, where the food will be, where she sleeps, rituals of playing and your calm loving voice. She needs to be able to find you and get to you when she needs. After 3 or 4 weeks then you can expand her experiences and exposures to the eventual world around her. Being a new kitten without her mother or siblings means she won't have her own species to guide and teach her. Cat are hunters and killers, so they like to play, chase and pounce. You would do well to study some wild cats, the images and information will help you to understand their psyche. They are alot more that a cute cuddly baby like play thing. They are basically a primative animal with little more that a brain stem between those ears..

Hi. Fun, funf! Kittens love to play, once they get used to you. You didn't mention your baby's age. If the kitten is really small yet then she proabably won't be ready for toys. She will be too busy climbing up your pant leg and exploring every single thing she can find. When our kittens got to be about 8 week, I got them some toy mice. They were thrilled. I got them some interactive toys too so I could play with them. At first they were a little afraid of the quick moving larger toys that I used to play with them, but after a while if you give them a chance to become familiar with it, they will love it. It won't take long. Whatever toys you get, make sure you take of all loose parts before giving it to your kitten. I always tore off the tail, eyes and ears of the mice before they played with them and it no absolutely no affect on their enjoyment of it. Mostly I think she will just want to get to know you and have you pet her and talk to her. She will naturally be curious about you too so I am sure you are going to love getting to know each other. Have fun.

Kittens are very active! You should go to Pet co and get cat toys of take an old shoelace and drag it across the floor. She will chase it usually. Also after you do this for a while cuddle with her. If this doesn't work try moving her to a smaller space, and then slowly expose her to the whole space, maybe it is too big for her!

I know your excited but give her a couple of days to get use of her new surroundings. First pick out a name and keep the kitty box in sight and food and water. Don't try to pick her up, but when she's hungry is probably the best time to try to pet her. Remember she misses her mom and siblings. After you get the adjusting part over with, string games, waded up little pieces of paper, toy balls w/bells, they will play with about anything. Then in about 5 months, call for appointment at your local vet and get fixed and shots. Good Luck

Just let your kitten get used to her surroundings first. I'm sure she is frightened. If she wants to hide let her but make sure she knows where her food, water and litter are maybe even keep them in your room until she's comfortable, then move them a little farther every 2 days or so until you have them where you want them That's what my vet suggested. She'll come around soon and be your best friend. Oh, in answer to play, my 4 cats LOVED those little mice with real fur, or a red pom-pom.

Lots of play and affection! Get her a few toys, a scratching post, a "kitty condo" so she has a place where she feels safe. A toy I am sure she will love is a plastic torus with a ball inside that she can touch but not pull out. My cat has one of these, and she loves it!
Give her plenty of affection - stroking, scratching behind the ears, brushing to prevent hairballs. If she has a lot of pleasant experiences with you while she is young, she will bond with you strongly and be a lifelong friend.

get some string, pull it around on the floor. I don't know why ppl spend so much on cat toys, my cats have more fun with pennies, super balls, those plastic bracelets, and hair elastics than any of the toys I have ever bought them!! Here's something that even gets my 15 year old cancerous, dying for 4 years cat jumping around like a kitten. Get a piece of string or yarn, tie a hair elastic to it and just drag it around. He loves it!
