They tried that. It was called prohibition. Didn't work. You cannot save people from themselves. Plus alcohol has bought and paid for too many politicians. Tobacco and fire arms too. It really is up to us to try and control ourselves, not the government.

1. We tried that once, didn't work. (prohibition)
2. We live in a democracy and the people voted that they want their liquor.
3. We wouldn't want the government to have that much control over commerce that they could shut down a company if they feel it is injurious to health. That could be said for skateboard mfg, sugar processing, etc. You get the picture, It's often a matter of opinion as to what can be hazardous. People can spin anything to make it sound good or bad depending on their point of view.

Because they already tried that in America in the 20's, and it didn't work out too well.

People would just smuggle it or make it illegally. It created a whole bunch of corruption, and wealthy crime lords, and it cost the taxpayers a ton of money to try and enforce this policy.

Now if the government would only learn from that, and legalize pot...

Probably because they make way to much off of liquor sales (via taxes, etc.). The same reason they don't shut down tobacco manufacturers even though smoking is bad for you. Follow the money.
