No.

In December, regarding questions if he was becoming a Scientologist, he said "I've talked to Tom about it. (There's) lots of incredible, wonderful concepts (but, my wife) Jada and I don't necessarily believe in organized religion."

As Islam is generally considered to be an organized religion, this seems to refute that.

The rumour that he was Muslim came from an interview with the Arizona Reporter on Jan 3, 2002. What he actually said was:

"The one thing that stands out for me from doing this film and diving into Ali's understanding of the Nation of Islam, and then his understanding of his God, is that my relationship has to be directly with God. I can't have a relationship with God that is dependent upon another person's behavior. And in working on this film, I began to understand that Ali is a Muslim, but he is also a man of God. He is one of the few people who specifically stands out and says, I am a Muslim. He is welcome on that basis everywhere. And that's how I want to be, I want to be welcome everywhere."

When this was cited by other papers, was reported has him saying "I am Muslim", which he clearly did not say.

When interviewed by GQ magazine, Smith said that he did own a prayer rug and a copy of the Koran and that 7 of his 10 closest friends growing up were Muslim, but he said that he did not follow any organized religion but he did tell GQ "I believe in God the way that Christians, Muslims, Jews and holy people of the world believe in God"
