Any dog can be dangerous given certain circumstances.

I am looking at the post here about the Fila and am amazed at the amount of crap and pure fiction that some people can spew. The Fila was originaly bred to herd cattle and protect the plantations of Brazilians. It is still used for that purpose today, along with being a hunting dog, mainly for jaguar, hence the lose skin on the dog, and by the police as a patrol/riot dog. The brazilian army uses it in the Amazon to track down criminals and drug dealers. It is an EXTREMELY faithful dog to its family and especially the children. In Brazil they call the Filas "the childrens dogs". It's faithfulness to it's family is so legendary that they say "he is as faithful as a Fila". The Fila does have a love/hate relationship with life in the fact that it loves everyone in the house, but hates everyone outside of it. That is called "Ojerija" the ability to naturally protect. It is NOT a killing machine, but an outstanding protector of family and home. Now, as far as the question, dogs that were bred to fight other dogs are NOT dangrous to people. Any dog can be dangerous, if it is not bred correctly or if it has an idiot for an owner. I have seen little 10 pound dogs that are dangerous and I have also seen 200 pound dogs that could kill, if given the opportunity. And contrary to popular belief, it is NOT just the handlers fault, some dogs have genetic problems they were born with and no amount of "correct" upbringing will cover up those problems.

The Tosa looks big and all, and are considered VERY loyal dogs that await anything you request from them. I don't see them a extremely dangerous though. If abused, yeah, I'm sure he could rip someone's arm off, but raised properly I'm sure they'd be just a good a dog as any Large or Giant breed.

Suzie: I have 5 Dobermans, and they are not for "scare tactics". Just my breed of choice. Besides, even my largest (male), he might knock you down, but being bitten is the last thing that would happen.

You hear all the time that pitbulls are. But I strongly disagree. I have two Pits & they haven't bit one person yet. I have two kids & one on the way. I've had my male since I brought my oldest home from the hospital. My pits have been the best dogs I've ever had. The dogs I don't trust the most is Chows. However any dog can be dangerous. Its all about how you raise them. They're just like kids. Kids need LOVE & DISIPLEN to grow up the way they should. Dogs are the same way. But you can never trust any animal 100% because they are all unpredictable. A dogs goal in life is to please their master, Remenber that.

almost every breed of dog is a dangerous breed. it depends alot on its upbringing and even then dogs can just turn like a light switch!!! the worst dog i have come across in my time as a vet has to be a jack russell! this may sound silly i know as they are so small, but believe you me, they are very vicious animals when they feel like it! i have treated one not so long ago and it had an alter ego, again this may seem daft but its true! one minute he was a lovely loving dog, but the next minute he was ripping into the arm of his owner. in the end there was nothing more we could do for him, resulting in him being put to sleep as it wasnt worth the risk as he could turn on any1 at any time unbeknown to the owner!!! bitches are the worst of all...

I have never found a particular breed of dog to be dangerous, I've seen chihauhas more vicious than pit bulls. Dogs are like people some just have bad temperments, some shy, some skittish etc etc. But I have found that there are BAD dog owners. Those people that train dogs to fight for entertainment, abuse, and neglect. I have raise dogs of every breed from pitts to tea cup poodles. There is NO such thing as BAD dog breeds just bad dog owners.

It'd the owner NOT the dog that results in it being dangerous. A minority of people in society tend to go for pet Pit Bulls, Rottweillers and Dobermans to 'look hard' and use them 'for scare tactics'. As a result, it spoils it for sensible and genuine dog owners, as they are scapegoated as possessing a 'dangerous dog'. Not a week goes by that I don't see people walking on the other side of the road when they encounter a dog being walked by its owner. It's pathetic!

I disagree. If you are a child, the most dangerous dog could be any dog. An adult, any medium to large breed dog. I`ve never heard of a Tosa attacking a person but the odds are it has happened---- in Japan.

I have to disagree mainly because the Tosa is bred for dog fighting. This makes them relatively easy to socialize to people. Yes it does have a large amount of natural dog aggression but not people aggression.

The Fila Brazilea on the other hand was originally bred by South American Druglords to do nothing but kill other people. The breed standard in dog shows is that the dog must be "unapproachable" by the judges. If it will let strangers come pet it, it is not a good example of the breed. This dog will kill people without hesitation.

i've had german shepards and rottweilers - all soft

both are hearding dogs sheep and cattle..! they have a naturally high prey drive - which all canines have - but they have been sufficiantly excersied and trained (well as much as they can be) and i consider my dogs to be non aggressive.

the most dangerous dogs ever are ones that are abused / unkept / unexcersised and unsocialised - which can be any breed at all - even a toy poodle..!

All breeds can be dangerous. Some more than others. What really matters is what they are taught and how they are treated. You can teach a dog to be gentle or you can teach a dog to be vicious. Totally up to you.
