Well, in reference to a million other things the theists parrot 'free will! free will!' like it's a pharse with any real-world meaning...
So it seems that they take the concept of personal will pretty seriously.
But in my experience the way to be a good theist is to insist that it 's 'free will' itself that makes you slavishly follow God's will...
Go figure.

There is joy and there is peace when we are living in and doing the will of God. That does not mean that we can escape anxiety or depression- but have you seen people who live their own way? Are they never depressed or anxious. When I am trying to avoid God's will because it is not something I would do on my own, or think that my idea is better- there is nothing but stress in my life. When I finally lay aside my plan and follow His, peace is right there. It is the right thing to do, but until you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior, you will not be able to know what the perfect will of God is. Peace does not come from the absence of anxiety, but in the midst of it.

God does not give us a Spirit of fear!!! When we have His Spirit, we will have the courage to avercome. Read what happened to His followers after the crusifixion. They were all in hiding afraid that they were going to be next! They didn't know what was going to happen! But then the Holy Ghost fell upon them as the Spirit gave utterance. They then went out and turned the civilized world on it's ear with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, which is repentance, baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ to wash our sins away, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost just like the believers in the First Church, St. Mark 16:17. Experience it for yourself and you will never look back!!!

It is only depressing if you are not totally committed to it. The will of God can be heavy, long, lonesome, and painful but if you are not full surrendered to His Will you will be sad most of the time while you are doing it.

Acting on our own free will is what God wants for us. Anyone who blames God for their lack of initiative and laziness is just using God as a crutch and an excuse.

It is right and good to follow God's will and not your own. Unless you're really, really selfish and you demand to do it "MY way..."
No, why would that lead to depression?

Well it depends on what you believe. If you follow a faith then you should follow its rules. I am in a faith where I believe that I am doing gods will and he has something great in store for me.

if you are truly doing God's will, there would be no stress, and you would not have any anixety, or depression, doing something out of love never should cause us conflict.
