I'm doing a wine tasting at a friend's and, for reasons I won't go into, need a white that will stand up to her Cab.

Not sure what you mean by "stand up to" ? Are you pairing it with food or only tasting? You are comparing apples and bananas if you ask me....A full bodied red will always overpower a white, that's why in tastings they put the reds after the whites.

A high end (like $30/bottle) German Riesling Spatlese (late harvest) is smooth and slightly sweet. You'll love it.

I am assuming that the cab is wonderful and you are looking for an equally good white. If I am wrong, skip this answer! What I like in whites which are more full bodied are: Sancere, or Sauvignon blanc.Get yourself wine spectator and browse through looking at the ratings.I personally don't always agree with their oppinions but you can learn a great deal about wines in general.I believe a montre chez is one of the most excellent whites.

Kunde Sauvignon Blanc

The Chard won the paris wine tasting in France back in the 70s and won again in Napa at the recreation of the tasting.

A premium chardonnay can be just as big as a cab sav.
Try a Voyager Estate Chardonnay (Margaret River Australia.)
It is a lovely wine - with notes of fig, nut, melon, red grapefruit & butter.

I am a big fan of the Savingon Blanc (spelling?). It usually has a nice grapefruit like bite and it is fresh and usually not too sweet.
