I know it is typical for Christians to pray for things. Do you only pray for things you are unsure about?

Do you pray that God will help you get that job?

Do you pray that God will help you cut your grass?

Do you pray that God will help you run that mile in under 6 minutes?

Do you pray that God will help start your car?

If you don't, should you?

We should pray about everything. We should do nothing by ourselves. The Bible says to pray without ceasing (1Thessalonians 5:17), which means that we are to lead a prayerful life. The Bible also says that without Christ we can do nothing (John !5:5), which means all things are accomplished in Christ (Philippians 4:13). God answers all prayers (Matthew 21:22).

As an atheist I "pray" that if there is a god he heal my son of histiocytosis.

Edit: Just noticed the second part. In discussions with my wife last night I contend that we never share stories of when God says no in these prayers. She argues thats because people are ashamed of their selfishness.

I argue we would then only be argueing non-selfishly and for God's will.

Doesn't matter I suppose, as an atheist I don't expect any being to hear my prayer.

Prayer is realizing that we cannot survive without the Lord. Prayer is not just getting things from God, it getting us into the right position to be used of God. Nowhere in the Bible does it say- "God helps those who help themselves." God cares about every aspect of our lives- from the biggest to the smallest detail. I am not saying that I pray every time I go out to start the car,etc but I do say that God has to be apart of our every day life. Pray without ceasing, means that our life is prayer focused.

God has given you a mind about the things you can do yourself and things God will do for you, God wants you to prepare for a life hereafter and not go after worldly gains, still if you are not evil he will help you in your job, the mind he has given you will tell you to cut the grass and to start the car and he will surely help you to run a mile under 6 minutes if you strive for it

You call it Praying ; I call it just communicating or simple talking to my Dear Father,Friend,Strength,GOD, My loving Jesus Christ.I've already submitted my entire life to Christ ; which includes everything , whether it includes big decisions or help in daily activities. He is there with me all the time, but i do ask my self this question that Do i follow him every day of my life?
Try talking your heart to God and you'll feel the difference.
GOD BLESS.

When I pray I ask that God look over those I love and care about.

I ask that HE give guidance to those seeking HIM.

I ask that HE give comfort to those that are hurting.

I ask that HE guide my footsteps this day.
