As in studying religious, scientific, and spiritual sources, and if all three make reference to something similar, it should be considered a real probability in our minds.

Many sources are important. Read, listen and when ever possible go to the sources you are referencing in person. I have said many times I have traveled the world and lectured in many many countries. Participated in many conferences and debates (hosted many of them). Start here and weed out the garbage, then grab life by the horns and get out of your own little world and see the rest and try to tie things together. The garden can grow well if it is weeded often and with care.

Matthew 7:13-14
13Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

There is only one source that holds all the truth and revelation I will ever need.

do you assign all these sources the same value?

i.e. is a book written 2000 years ago and never changed as valid as 2000 years of continuous research building upon research?

Personally, I would say no. But you are correct insofar that feeding from but one viewpoint is poison.
