The word satan referred to an accuser, especially in a law court (plaintiff). The name lucifer was the old name the planet venus (the morning or day star) and the first use was in reference to the king of babylon, who was compared to the morning star for his beauty, untill his arrogance caused his downfall and the downfall of babylon. Beelzebub (or baalzebub) was the pagan god of the philistine city of Ekron. The word daemon (demon, devil) meant any divinity ranking between men and gods. It also meant a guardian spirit, inspiring or inner spirit. The word Belial (also used to denote the supposed fallen angel) simply means something or someone who is useless or wicked. So why do people feel it's necessary to make up a spiritual bad guy to blame for their own bad decisions. No devil, demon, satan or whatever makes men do bad things, they are more than capable of doing evil all on their own. Even the idea of hell is a recent addition, based on hades of mythology and sheol (a grave).

Are this many people really too lazy to do a little research on their own? Disappointing.

People just can't take responsibility for their own mistakes. They need someone to put the blame on. Preferrably someone who can't defend himself. And who better than the deities of rival faiths? That kills two birds with one stone. To blame Satan for something bad clears a person of wrongdoing and villfies another religion, making that person's religion come out squeaky clean.

Well, all of the names mentioned are simply other names of Satan. Lucifer could possibly be a double prophecy and can refer to both the Babylonian king and another, more powerful being. Besides, certain passages refer to Satan as a single being (Ephesians 2:2,Rev 20:7-10). Also notice that Jeus was tempted by THE devil(Matthew 4:1), indicating that it is a single foe He is facing (though the devil may have allies in the form of demons)

I am a regular Bible reader and I enjoy reading. In fact I read it everyday and if a day goes by without me reading it I feel like an unbeliever.
With that I am glad that the source of the information contained in your question is contained in this precious book - the Bible. I own a New King James Version Bible which is not far from the King James Version. Will you please please give me all the scripture quotations for all the information you have.
May the Lord bless you....greatly

You are correct in that Satan cannot force anybody to do anything, and that he is too often used as a scapegoat for a person's own faulty decision making. Satan is very real. He uses what a person gives him. He is sly and crafty and he whispers suggestions into the minds of all people. Those who are uninformed or gullible listen to him, but he can do nothing on his own. He has legend upon legend of demons, that is fallen angels of various ranking, to do his bidding. Those of us that read and study the Bible ion a regular basis know his voice and ignore him. the voice of Satan will always contradict the word of God.

The devil is a liar, and the father of it -John 8:44.
You cannot sin, you will not die from sin.
You can be like to God (the lies of Genesis 3.)
You might notice that some people believe these lies, that is the devils power.
SEE THE STORY OF LUCIFER/SATAN in: Isaiah 14:12-14.

I think u have a little point there. Sometimes christians blame satan for every single bad thing that happens to them when sometimes we don't realize we have the power of decision over our lifes, because God gave it to us. But in the other hand, u are not getting most of the story, satan was a beautiful angel as his name Lucifer described him, but just like many of us, he originated sin because of his greed to be just as or more powerfull than God himself. So Knowing that Jesus was even closer to God, he was angry and his vanity dragged him to hell and as you say, it is a grave. What Satan does in our lifes is present to us many things presented as if they were good, but like i said before we must be strong and use the knowledge we were given.

People did not "make up" a spiritual bad guy to take the fall. satan was once an angel who had the arrogance to think he was equal to God, and was cast out. I do agree that man makes his/her own decisions, but the bad choices come from the temptations of satan. We are all given free will to choose which path we will travel. I choose to follow Jesus. I don't judge others if they don't, but pray that they will.

In the folklore of Christianity, Satan, Lucifer, the Devi and the Beast have somehow become all the same thing. But in Hebrew, devil means "one who lies or does slander", and Satan is know as the “Liar in wait”. I agree with you as the origins of these names have been replaced by “divine assumptions”
