To Begin with an 8 week old puppy SHOULD NOT still be with it's mother!!!!! But, it should have been in the litter environment until then. The mother should have been separated from her litter at about 5 weeks with the puppy's fully weaned at that time.
I do agree with the question, HOW OLD IS THE PUPPY????? A puppy less than 4 weeks old will act exactly as you describe. It only takes about 6 hours for them to become dehydrated and then turn lethargic. If this is the case, you need to get some formula in the pup NOW!! Something as simple as an eye dropper can be used.
A 4-5 week old puppy is perfectly capable of eating puppy kibble mixed with warm water.
Next question,,, has the puppy had it's first puppy shot???

You would be sad if you were taken away from your mother too. All that puppy knows is the love and affection from his mother and siblings.
Hold the dog and love it, usually holding it close to your chest will help him relax. He will hear you heart beat, just like it would his mother.
I suggest if you have to crate your puppy to put a clock in his crate with him wrapped up in a towel. Make sure it is a clock that ticks. This simulates once again the mothers heart beat.
What ever you do, make sure the puppy is eating and drinking, small puppies can dehydrate real fast if it is not taking in proper liquids.
Love that puppy as much as you can, the bonding you will create will be forever. Good Luck !

Try warm cuddly baby toys. A wind-up alarm clock helps next to the puppy's bed. It can substitute the mother's heartbeat. A new blanket just for the puppy and try a little white chicken breast with low sodium chicken broth mixed in with food. Not much...just enough for flavor and maybe the pup will find it appealing enough to let the pup forget his/her sadness long enough to eat . Good luck. Really try the alarm clock...it has been a solution for puppies that suffer from separation anxiety for ages.

It takes a few days for a puppy to get used to not being with his mom or the other puppies. You didn't say how old his was. But try moistening his food. Dry food might be to hard for him to chew. Don't give him canned food it could give him diahraha which leds to dehidration. When we got our beagle she wouldn't eat either the vet had us make our own food. Boiled chicken, no skin. mix that with plain white rice. After a few days mix some dog food with it and let it soften, then slowly start adding more dog food. Good luck to you.

Make sure the puppy you got was at least 8 weeks old.
Get some puppy milk and put it on your fingertips and place it on the puppies nose. If it licks it put it in a small bowl and slowly move it towards it. repeat if he licks it but dosnt go for the bowl.

Wait one more day to see if he adapts then either take him to the vet or return him to the person you got him from. There is some separation anxiety involved but that wont stop a pup from wanting to play or eat.

How old is he? Anything under 8 weeks should still be with his mother. He is probably suffering from some form of shock, but you should take him to the vet to get a diagnosis and solution. Cuddle him in a warm blanket and make himfeel loved. Also try inticing him with toys. ood luck, and get him to the vet a.s.a.p!

How old is it? And is it a small breed? I had a Yorkie and he got like that and his blood sugar was low. Try to get him to eat something and see if that helps.
