Let us debate sensibly...If Allah is the God of Abraham he should be in agreement with the word of God and his prophets. The Scriptures from Moses through all of the prophets refered to the coming of a Messiah who would save his people from sin. Abraham himself said God would provide himself a lamb. Now are we to believe all the words of God and his prophets wer corrupted and changed for thosuands of years to show the coming of a Messiahw ho would save us from sin so that the only truth that is left is that all the truth before was a lie and truth does not exist unless it is passed through one sinful man...So everyone shold deny all of the truth of God that existed before Muhammad and accept only the truth he brough 4500 years after Adam? No Moses and Abraham and Isaiah foretold of God's plan ot save his people Christ came and taught from these scriptures and did fufill them..before the Qu'ran...God is not a liar his truth is good and his word is good...If allah is God then God lied for 4500 years and if Allah is not God than Allah is a liar...If Jesus is not the son of God then we are left with paying the penalty fo sin which is death as a righteous God can not call you holy if youa re not....So either Jesus atoned for sin or we are condemened by our sin or your hope for an unrighteous God who forgives sin and says a sinner is righteous when he is not...There is no debate Allah is in agreement with Satan who lied in the Garden and said ye shall not surely die...Why would the God of Abraham change his mind and agree with Satan? Sir it can not be the God of Abrham is not the Allah of the Qu'ran.

I'm not muslim but I think they believe Jesus was a prophet, not the son of God. What I find strange about Jews and Muslims believing Jesus was a prophet is the fact that a prophet of God would allow themselves to be called the Son of God. I don't believe Jesus ever stood up and announced himself to be the son of God but there were plenty that called him that and yet he never refuted it. I know there were several instance where he down played himself, you know announcing that everything he has done, you too can do but there was never denial. Now I haven't read the bible from back to front and I've never read the Koran but I am interested in understanding this. I find it difficult to believe that God or Allah would send a prophet to Earth that would allow themselves to be announced as the son of God by others. In the Jewish case, especially when the arrival of the son of God is fortold. (Don't know if it's the same for the Koran).
I must say, this is one of the more interesting questions to be posted. Be interested to see what others have to say regarding this.

The 72 virgins is a different religion all together...you equating that myth to the Son of God doesn't make sense.
Jesus is the Son of God, the prophets foretold his coming, He said he is the Son of God, and he rose from the dead. He continues to live today and change peoples lives all the time.

Okay, look at it logically. If Jesus was a prophet and not the Son of God, then how do you explain that He, Himself, referred to Himself as the Son of God? He, Himself, said that He was equal to God. He, Himself, said that He was God.
I can give you the Bible verses if you want. But realize that the Romans crucified Him because the Pharisees demanded that He be killed - their charge was Blasphemy, the Roman charge was Insurrection. And yes, He really was killed - the Romans were very good at what they did, they did not mistake a coma for death. (But that's another debate entirely).
So, we have a problem with the whole prophet thing. If He claimed to be the Son of God and God incarnate, and He was not Who He claimed to be, then He was either lying or He was insane. You cannot be sane and claim to be another person unless you are lying. A prophet of God cannot be either insane or lie about it. You now have a very big choice - either He was Who He said He was or He was not. If not, then He was a liar or insane and Islam falls apart at the seams. If He was, then Islam falls apart at the seams.

Jesus himself said he was the Son of God. He said that he was "I Am" which is the name God told Moses to call Him when he went before Pharoah. This is why the Jewish leaders of that time wanted to have Jesus killed. Jesus is frequently called a great moral teacher, but Jesus himself did not give us this option. In calling himself God's Son he was either the most dangerous megalomaniac of our history or the Lord of Life. He did not give us a third option.
Jesus is also spoken of in many extra-biblical texts as a living historical figure. He is definitely not a myth.
The Romans posted guards outside Jesus tomb to ensure that the disciples did not try to remove his body because they knew that Jesus said he would rise in 3 days. For a Roman soldier to fail in his duty was punishable by death. Also, the stone that was rolled over the tomb was only moveable by the efforts of many strong men or oxen. The purpose being for it to seal the tomb forever. The Jewish leaders and Romans had a vested interest in being able to produce a body, if needed, which they never did. If they had it would have put a swift end to a, then, small movement within the Jewish faith.
Jesus appearred after his death to more than 500 witnesses many of who were still alive when the gospels were written down.

Yes, I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. Like what another member just said, the 72 virgins are from another thing entirely. The account of Jesus is in the Bible which I believe is true because of the fulfilled prophecies and the changed lives of those who believe in it and accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

"Don't you believe that Jesus is not the Son of God" is not the way to kick off a "sensible" debate.
