I thought that with the use of henna no other chemicals could be used. Therefore, if it does not turn out you may be stuck with something you do not like. Check into that first.
I am multi racial and have experimented with different hair colors (usually dark and lovely) and I could never get my hair light enough. Finally asking a stylist I was told because of how dark my hair is it will never lift correctly. I only achieved shades of gold and orange.

That's the normal effect of henna, it turns hair reddish, or very dark or black hair brownish. There is a neutral henna, that's what you should have used, but regular henna will put reddish tones into your hair. If you dye your hair with henna first, and then dye over that with indigo, your hair will be dyed black. You can buy henna in a black or even a blue-black shade, and apply it, that's what I'd recommend. Link to a place that sells henna for hair in about a dozen colors (including black) follows. Natural henna has no PPD in it, but some hair dyes do. What you want is Indigo, mixed with henna, or alone. If you see a package of "black henna" in a Middle Eastern or Indian grocery it is probably indigo. Search around, if you like, to find someplace close to you. I've also linked to a henna site with guidelines for telling whether something might have PPD in it, or if it's natural. Obviously, if you order from the internet, you can't tell these things until after you buy it. I've done my hair with purple and burgundy henna, I've always liked henna. Started out with a reddish shade, that was nice, too. Good luck!

I am multiracial with naturally jet black hair and I asked my hairstylist from Panama about coloring my hair. She just stated that dark hair is highly resistant to any color, henna, semi, or permanent. I can assume you have dark, curly hair regarding your heritage, so i'm not sure that henna would have any effect.

The only thing that "tinted" my hair was a cherry cola rinse by Revlon. I can't really get a good (or noticible) color elsewhere.

I am a quarter Indian and 3 quarters white. I have used heena on my hair in the past and it did absolutely nothing. I think the texture of my hair is too thick. I would suggest that you ask your hairdresser first.
